I have been having this pain outside the hip on one side. Going up the stairs was sore, so I went to massage, and got 80% better. I'm going to Chiro, but the pain is still there. It's not too bad. When I tale first stair step, it is sore, but it gets better with more movement. Do you think this is just tight muscle?

could be any number of things...go check with a doctor...

also make sure that when you do exercises like squats/deadlifts that you push evenly with both legs/hips....people tend to dominate with one side of the body and so put more stress on one side of the body...

As menace says...check with your doc! but, I'd guess that it is your ITBand (Iliotibial band) that runs up your hip. I've had a similar problem. A good stretch for it is to stand beside a wall, if it your left hip, cross your right leg over left and then push your hip towards the wall. If it is your IT band you will find this stretch hurts like hell:). You need to keep stretching it. If you do a google on IT band you'll get lots of info.

Also, as per previous discussions, yumi, you need to be careful about overtraining! That will put a lot of extra stress on your joints and my cause problems to worsen rather than improve. Sometimes your body just needs a rest.

Thanks guys. As I mentioned, I am going to Chiro twice a week, so instead of trying to wake up early, I will make these days as rest days.

Yes, I've noticed that stretching helps a lot. I will keep doing that.

It may also depend on specific exercises you're doing.
My hips HATE the side leg raises!
