Okay, how do you reward yourself for sticking to your new, healthier lifestyle of eating right and exercising?
For women I know it seems they like to reward themselves with new clothes, shoes, days at the spa, etc. But, what do you do if you're a guy??? I can't think of any way to reward myself that doesn't involve food!!! I saw the TV commercial the other day for the new Grilled Cheese Pizza at Dominoe's and thought about how much I'd love to sit down to that!!! Of course, I didn't do it! But I wanted to..............
Plus, is it bad to reward yourself with food?? I've lost 40 lbs in 7 weeks and I think it's time for a reward. I realize a food reward is bad because it helps maintain that emotional attachment to food that got me upwards of 300 lbns to begin with. However, I talked to a body builder who said that he has one meal a week when he eats WHATEVER he wants, claiming it "shocks" the metabolism and is actually good for weight loss!!!
So, what do you think???? How can I reward myself for losing 40 lbs?? ((Remember I still want to lose about another 90 lbs!!) Is it a good idea to have a free meal and eat anything I want?
Thanks!!

Go have a big 18oz Rib steak, with baked potatoe, bottle of wine and a good dessert. Nothing wrong with rewarding yourself with something healthy. Eventually you will not even think about rewarding yourself.
Keep up the good work David.

It's good to reward yourself like carivan said... have to do it otherwise we'd go crazy... maybe there is nothing wrong with a guy going to a spa? Massage? I don't think it would hurt anyone! haha...

What about clothes....a new pair of jeans...or runners? Of course, being a girl, I LOVE CLOTHES AND SHOES...but you need something to wear....gawd, your clothes have to be hanging by now. The point is, you should set smaller goals (like every 20 lbs lost....don't wait for 90 lbs) and reward yourself with each achievement....so...according to my calculations, you need to come up with TWO rewards.....I vote for shoes!
Congratulations and be good to yourself!

I like to buy new workout music, or new equipment, sometimes just a hot soak in the tub with some muscle linament in it, massage is definitely a great reward.
Nothing wrong with occasionally using food as a reward - but as you said, you have attachment issues to food, so that may not be a good treat for you.
Keep up the good work!!!

There are a lot of DVD box sets out there I want...and don't really need (but it's a reward, right?). So, I set up that as a reward. If I make it to my workouts for the eight weeks, I'll pick up The Simpsons Season 5. Personally, I deal with a lot of food as reward issues, so I had to change that.
-------------- I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locusts. It wasn't my fault!! I swear to God!!

Take a weekend trip somewhere that you've always wanted to go and splurge on some good food, like Ivan said. Even a night out and away somewhere you wouldn't usually go but have always wanted to! :)

I think the "meal off" each week is a good idea to prevent crvings, and help keep focus the rest of the time. I think the reward should be in addition to the meal off.
Aren't men supposed to like gadgets? what about a heart rate monitor or a pedometer, or something similar?
