Chest
Shoulders Abs and Obliques Biceps and Triceps Rest Legs Thats how i'm currently splitting up my weights, but i'm not sure if it's any good? It's all so confusing, "do less, do more, train harder, don't overtrain...". So i'm wondering if splitting it up like this is any good or if i should combine some things like chest and shoulders on the same day or maybe split up biceps and triceps or whatever? |

For starters you need to work your back. The back and abs are important they will help lead to a strong trunk. A split I like is
chest/back with abs rest shoulders/ tri's bi's with abs rest legs with abs -------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. I am ANIMAL! and that is enough. |

Like i said before i'll add my back, but not atm. I'll start my back in a month or so (during the holidays when i get around to making myself a bench...)

Why do you need a bench to do your back? There are many good back movements that you dont need a bench for. -------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. I am ANIMAL! and that is enough. |

I still do train my back a little as a secondary muscle in quite alot of other exercises. |

Because the only exercise that doesn't look like it's goign to kill me needs a bench (I injured my back recently doing something stupid, and it doesn't seem to be healing very well)...
http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/ExerciseDescription.jsp?e_name=Good_Mornings I don't like the look of doing thing like that... |

it would be great if we could do that, but what works for one person doesn't always work for someone else.

the reason i ask is because if you aren't training for a race, this is too much cardio. whatever your goals are with your weight training, you're going to set yourself back because you'll be burning muscle tissue if you do that much endurance work. 30-40 minutes is enough for sustained running and i wouldn't suggest doing it more than 3 times a week.
ideally you could work a schedule where you do endurance work twice and some kind of interval training once a week in addition to your lifting. whatever you decide to do change it up every 6-8 weeks so your progress doesn't completely stall. and cut back on the running you're doing right now — let yourself just rest and watch tv every now and again. your body won't grow if it can't recover. -------------- if you get me started on quentin tarantino films, chances are you won't be able to shut me up. excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

I suggest you have at least aday of rest between chest, triceps and shoulders b/c you tax each one by doing the other...also back is ESSENTIAL....to train...not oh maybe i'll add it down the road...if you don't train back then you might as well sit home and watch tv....i say that b/c when you let soem bodyparts lag behidn others, you create environment for injuries and traumas...so might as well sit at home and avoid these injuries....yes you use your back for support and stabilization in other exercises...but you also use it jsut by walking around...does this strengthen it? not really....
also back exercises help heal your back by makign it stronger so it might help you recover from your injury faster... So try Mon: Chest Tue: Back/Abs Wed: Off Thu: Shoulders Fri: Legs Sat: Arms Sun: Off you can do cardio on days off, or you can just rest...b/c if you go intensely, you'll need them..... I suggest you do compound exercises no matter whether you try to bulk up or get strong or train for a specific sport.... for Legs do Squats and stiff legged deadlifts, calf raises for Back do Romanian Deadlifts, barbell rows, and pull ups for chest do Dips, Bench Press, Incline DB FLyes for Biceps do EZ_BAR curls, alt DB curls, concentration curls for triceps do close grip bench press, french press, heavy V handle pulldowns for shoulders do Sitting/Standing Shoulde presses, power cleans for Abs do crunches, sit ups, russian twists, leg raises try month of 10-12 reps then a month of 6-8 reps then month of 2-4 reps do 2-4 sets per exercises....when you get a hang of them, use techniques like drop sets, super sets, forced reps, negatives, or new exercises to mix it up...especially after the 3-4 months... hope this helps....my usual 2 cents...gl | |

What kind of back injury do you have? Has it been checked by a doctor? Are you cleared to lift with it? These are things we need to know. Now Good Mornings are not, I repeat NOT a exercise for a beginner with a back injury. What kind of equipment do have access to? The splits they all gave you are fine to start with. The reason why they are on you to start back is that if your back is weak to start with lifting for any other bodypart could cause another injury. Hope this helps.-------------- If you can itch your nose after arm day...do another set! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Actually i've got 2 injuries but one has almost cleared up.
The first I got on a rock slide in a rock pool, I slid down the slide in a bit of a dodgy way and landed on another rock at the bottom (not dirrectly, kinda hard to explain really, sorta fell but slide in water a bit before hitting it), it hurt to put my head forwards or backwards, but this has almost completely cleared up. The second injury I got dong something really stupid. There was a barbell on the ground (around 70kg), and it was in my road so I deadlifted it to try to move it out of the way and turned around with the weight in my hands and the momentum twisted my around and I hurt my back (spine?). I keep asking my dad to look at it (he's a back specialist :P), and he keeps putting it off saying things like "I'm sure it will heal in time". Might pester him some more tomorrow... |

Is there just not a edit button or am I missing something?
To answer your questions furthure, it hurts to do stuff like Good Mornings, so I'd say it would probably be a bad idea. And equipment I have access to, 1 set of Imperial free weights and 1/2 set of metric free wieghts, I'm going to make myself a bench, I have a treadmil, some puleys I can use to rig something up (not quite sure what to use them for yet). |
