I work out with weights three times a week, go for long walks on a regular basis, etc.

Last Friday our church had a volleyball night, and it was fun...but afterwards I hung out in the parking lot and talked for awhile in the cold, still in my volleyball clothes. The next morning I woke up feeling sick (sore throat, nausea), and I was also sore (there's a lot of muscles that are used in volleyball that you don't quite hit at the gym!) Two days later, I'm feeling even more nauseous and sick and very sore.

I've been taking crystallized ginger for the nausea and eucalyptus tea for the sore throat...my question is...when can I head back to the gym. I get tired just going out to eat. But I really want to head back soon. Also I work Monday thru Friday this week waiting tables...

you're experiencing DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness)....the volleyball game intensified your weight workouts....don't worry about it....it can last up to a week...the inensity of it is usually worst 24-72 hours after workout....then it gets better.....i recommend you take Multivitamin, vitamin 500mg C and E 400iu(help immunity against colds and recover after workouts), Zinc 50mg(helps with colds, strength), magnesium(strength)...also try taking glutamine powder mixed intoa shake 5-10g after workouts....it helps with recovery..

Which muscles are sore and how bad? sometimes you can go workout arms when legs are sore, but sometimes it's best jsut to take those few extra days off and rest....recovery is vital to gains....

also if you don't get better soon, go for a check up with a doctor, to be on the side of caution...gl

I have never heard of DOMS lasting a full 7 days and causing flu like symptoms at all. go see a doc

I have a feeling it's a bit of both....didn't cross my mind but yea flus/cold been going around....so that's a possible cause also....

Mutt after my last leg workout I had severe DOMS for 3-4 days....and can still feel it slightly after 6 days ....so 7 days is not as improbable as you think....but he's experiencing some other symptoms which are a possibly a result of a cold/flu in addition to DOMS....when I had flu/colds my muscles weren't sore or ache....
