I heard that if you walk 10,000 steps a day you can lose like 1 lb in a day?Is this true?

10,000 steps is a good goal to shoot for, however losing 1 lb per day on a regular basis is unheard of- and extremely unhealthy. 1 to 2 lbs per week is a good goal for weight loss. Also, diet is a HUGE factor in weight loss- you could walk all day long but if you don't eat healthy it won't do you much good. If you are looking to lose some weight, try lifting weights. It will build your muscle, increase your metabolism, and your body will burn calories all day long.

Yes. Look more to your diet than to your 10,000 steps. If you walk to McDonald's to get a Big Mac 3 times per day, you may get your steps in, but the Big Mac, Large Fries, Large Coke, Apple Pie, and Large Shake will negate all of the walking.
Ever wonder why people buy a Big Mac combo with a Diet Coke?

i usually wonder why people order non-fat lattes and then get whipped cream on top.

LOL I also wonder why I'm not allowed to leave the milk sitting out, but I can order warm milk with whipped cream at Starbucks.
But I digress. Diet. That's what's keeping me from losing the belly. I walk plenty of steps per day, but I allow my cheat days to be any day that ends with "y".

Hopefully 'olestra' wasn't one of those words.

Sorry. Just one more smart alec response, then I'll shut up.
If you saw it on the Internet or in an Infomercial, then it MUST be true.

if i'm not mistaken, 10,000 steps should be right around 1 mile. my mother walks 3 miles every day on top of looking after 4 grandchildren and eating a very healthy diet, and she doesn't lose 1lb a day.
i work downtown and routinely walk the 4-mile tunnel loop that runs under houston on top of lifting weights 5 days a week, keeping a clean diet, and playing tennis and basketball.
in light of these 2 examples, i would say, no, walking 10,000 steps a day does not make you lose 1lb per day. someone is selling you a load of, well, you know.

oh and i meant to add on to my personal example that barely lose 1lb per week when i'm trying to, which is 4 weeks every 2 months.
