lately i have been off of my strength and mass cycle and i have come to a horrible realization - i have been doing strength training for so long that i have no idea how to cut anymore. i get so incredibly bored with my cutting routine that i'm not even motivated to get in the gym to lift.

i honestly HATE cutting. i HATE doing more reps with lighter weights. i HATE thinking i look weak because i grabbed the 20lb dumbbells instead of the 35s to do my shoulder presses. i HATE having to tell people that i'm "toning up" because then i look like every other woman on the planet who's trying to avoid gaining mass when really i've been TRYING to gain the mass for the past 10 weeks and don't want to lose what i've worked for.

bottom line - i feel like i've come a very long way with my fitness planning and training abilities, but now i feel like a huge part of my cycle is completely for nothing. this is as much venting as i can do right now. i am tired.

Howdie, in the past I've been able to cut using whatever workout I wanted by dropping 250 cals per day from my intake, I give that a week or so and then re-adjust. Think that may help?

I never could stick with the high rep stuff for the same reasons as you. I did bump my cardio while cutting.

Why would you have to change your workouts, more reps with lighter weights?? This is a mistake!! Keep your heavy weights. Diet and cardio will give you your cut. You did not build your physique with light weights and lots of reps. That is asking for a nice loss of lean tissue! Don't do it!

i haven't really thought about it that way - i could do all my cutting just from diet? i guess that makes all too much sense because if i'm not eating enough calories to keep gaining muscle, i'm not going to get bigger, but if i'm eating enough to maintain it while keeping my fat intake down, my lean tissue should take care of metabolizing the body fat i accumulated while bulking.

this makes me feel much better. thanks charlie and bb1

Howdie,

I was about to send you an IM since I haven't seen any posts from you in some time. This board ain't the same without you :) As for high rep-low weights - yech! - weights are for getting strong. In other words - what charlie & BB1 aid.

Good to hear from you!

You never know what you'll learn from a post. I read BB1's journal every day. Right in the middle of his cutdown phase for his last competition he posted in the PL forum that he set a new personal record in DB bench press. That made it clear to me that strength gains while cutting were possible....Even for geezers. Remember folks, Ron is much older than me. Keep posting Ron you're a lifting teaching machine.
