Hi, I'm new here. Does anyone else have this problem? I get a craving when I am not hungry. The more I fight it, it's like my mind "tricks" my stomach into thinking it's empty. Then I feel really hungry. Bad brain!! Any advice?

Make sure you are eating a good breakfast, eating balanced meals every 3 hours, and drinking lots of water.
Once you get the eating rightm, the cravings usually go away, except maybe during those more hormonally charged times of the month, when all you want o do is eat all day. I try to minimize the damage by eating things that are healthier versions of what I am craving.

I agree with fsdsk and asimmer and boy, do I know what cravings are!! I found a lot of my cravings were due to not eating enough and enough of the right things and my higher carb ratio. When I implemented drinking lots more water and took my meals and spread them out and ate good carbs vs. bad ones, it took about 3 weeks and my cravings slowly dwindled to minor ones vs. those mind boggling ones. I had been so bad that I could get full and turn around twenty minutes later and think I was starving and would search the cupboards for those carb centered sweets!

Be patient and give it time and you will find they dwindle and they turn into a different kind of craving - a craving for some chicken or veggies, though I won't fool you and say you won't yearn for a double chocolate chip cookie now and then, it just won't be as often or as damaging then!

Good luck to you!

Thanks for all of the advice. Is it ok to eat sugar free candy or slam diet pop? Sometimes too much water makes me feel like puking. I am asking because I had heard that "fake" sugar might keep you from losing weight.

Or should I try to get used to not emotionally eating?

What helps for me is to eat enough GOOD fat.... I take fish oil caps, eat almonds, nuts, avocados etc
Really helps to control those cravings! :)

I usually chew a lot of gum-sugar free of course...and drink a butt load of water like crazy. I usually fill up like ten regular water bottles and slam them threw out the day.

maniac - you sound hungry! make sure you are eating enough and eating a variety of foods. Most seasonings are low or no-calorie and can be used to spice up a bland 'diet'. learn to make low-fat versions of the foods you crave. I love to ad hot pepper to things, or curry powder. Yum!
Also - check the nutrition forum - there are a lot of good recipes, also there are some recipes in the FAQs forum.

I think that if you do something active or something, it will get ur mind off of food, and if you would just not go by the kitchen. It usually helps for me if i am out somwhere having fun. i forget about food, and have so much energy.
