Well over the past few months of weight training, I have lost a lot of fat and my veins are now visible all over my upper body / arms :). There is one problem though. I still weight train 3-4 times a week, and I know to build a pound of muscle a week you need to intake 500 extra calories a day, but the one thing I noticed throughout all this weight training was the fat on my stomach never really disappeared. It's gotten less and less but its still there and I know I would have to diet to take it off.
My problem is .. how do I "diet", to lose the body fat on my stomach, yet "eat more" to gain muscle after lifting? Is this even possible? :( |

Well you do seem to understand how it could be a problem.
Its not possible. Abs are made in the kitchen as many have said on here. You have to be already content with your muscles and size before you decide to shed the pounds to look cut and show off that 6 pack. So focus on gaining...then cut. |

:( Well, okay. Thanks. It's just frusturating because everything else is pretty lean on me and my muscles stick out everywhere except my stomach. And I'm pretty sure I have pretty big abs(from doing abs twice - three times a week for the last six months), just a few lbs of fat on them.

your abs maybe the place where your body wants to hang onto the fat at - most people have one or two places that will be the last place to lose it
Get your muscles where you want them & then do the fat lose - muscles will help burn the fat that is why everyone says to work on them & since you can either gain or lose - you need to get your gaining done first & then work on the losing. I hope I was clear if not just say so & I'll try again or someone else might be able to explain better -------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

yep, cut the bad fats and get some protein, good carbs...it's all about the diet baby. are you male or female? men are blessed with testosterone, so get more definition faster as opposed to women. -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Male.
I know that 1 lb muscle = 50 extra calories ;). And I would definitley call myself a careful eater, I take in alot of protein and the occasional complex carbohydrate (i know :( i cant help myself, potates are good), but I usually stick to oatmeal / tuna / protein bars / fruit smoothies with added extras.. etc. Hmm, this makes me mad because I look pretty good except my abs and its embarassing the unproportionality.. atleast in my opinion. I have a sort-of flat stomach, but its still wide, and unproportional to my upper body. I think I'll just do what you mentioned-- stick to weight training for awhile and then try to get it off. |

... Well actually I have some questions still I decided.
I think I would rather lose the weight on my stomach then get nay buffer right now, and I think I would probably just have to devote a 3-4 weeks tops on watching my diet to lose the weight ( probably no more than 5 lbs tops on my midsection that I would like to lose ). Here is my question, my metabolism is really going fast right now, ( 13 and a half, with quite a bit of muscle, and I'm growing a lot right now ) I burn a lot of calories just sitting around. The thing is, I want to lose the body fat, but keep my strength up. What would be a good way of doing this? ( I will keep lifting, but I'm going to limit calories as so I won't be building much muscle, rather losing fat. ) |

Well, depends on your body fat %. I personally don't know mine, but I know to get my full abs showing I'd need to lose a little weight. Looking at your picture, I'd say you might need to gain, you look fairly slim. Although, we'd have to know your body fat % and weight / age, etc, to really know whether its gains or cut body fat.

Do a little additional cardio and cut out starchy carbs for a while. But if you are 13 and a half, you shouldn't be dieting strictly, you are still growing and need a healthy, balanced diet.-------------- \"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. Umm, we don't know your age, weight, etc either.-------------- \"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. Who me? If you're directing it at me, I know you don't, because I know that I just need to lose the fat, not gain any muscle. I have been working abs for six months now (twice a week). I wasn't sure if he has done anything with his abs or anything, so I couldn't know.
Asimmer: I don't diet strictly, I just sort-of have a daily routine that I always eat this this and this, and trust me its plenty. As you can probably see.. I do a lot of reading / etc... for someone my age. It's worth it though, really changed the way I look and feel about myself. I'm thinking of doing hill training on the tredemele as that extra little cardio.. just to mix it up a little. I hate running, but I can run 3-4 miles without stopping, its just boring. |
