for my breakfast i currently have a bowl of bran flakes with a banana sliced in it and a spoon of splenda. recently i started puttin a handful of oatmeal in it too and i love the taste( with soya milk)
i read that oatmeal is a great source for energy etc but am i right in thinkin the oatmeal needs to be heated 1st to get bring out the full goodness (or did i imagine readin it :)). I also have a fruit smoothie at lunch and drop some in that.im trying to eat as healthy as i can and slowly lose a little weight in conjunction with exercise.
thanks in advance for replies

It will be fine without heating it. I do not think that heating brings out the benefits but I do not see how you like it not heated. Good luck

Actually, a lot of people say that heating food above 108 degrees kills the nutrients. So if anything, raw should be better. But if it's been processed, it's probably already been heated and in that case it won't matter. I don't have a clue as to how credible any of this is.... Regardless, it's not harmful to eat it unheated.

I eat it uncooked all the time... I mix it with a bit of peanut butter (it's not natural PB, should be), add a few chocolate chips for sweetness (I know, it's bad, but I love chocolate!) and throw in a bit of coconut too... I also occassionally throw in flax meal... not sure if it's super healthy or not, but I like it!

As do I. It is fine this way. You can blend it into your shakes if you like this way also. great way to make a weight gainer as opposed to store bought ones that are full of fillers and sugars to make calories.

Oooh! You can also mix it with some yogurt and maybe some protein powder and a few berries....it swells up and makes a yougurt-custard-oatmeal-pudding thing....... yummmmm..... But you have to let it sit for a min otherwise it's not very soft.

I was once told that eating oatmeal raw was a bad idea becuase it was a great souce of food for other umm... little critters. Apparently, heating the oatmeal kills the critters. Not sure if the person who told me this was having a little fun at my expense.
