I have two goals in mind. Gaining muscle and losing some fat. I know my diet has a lot to do with losing fat, but does wrking out help lose fat? And if so, in a noticeable degree?

Yup... the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn... diet and exercise go hand in hand.. if it's cardio, resistance training or a combination of both with a good diet, it all helps...

Sure does, for starters it increases your calorie deficit simply by more energy expenditure. But even more important is lean muscle is a fat burning furnace so to speak. The more lean tissue you build, the more fat you burn even at rest. It stokes the metabolic rate dramaticaly. Every lb. of muscle burns up to 50 more calories even at rest. Weight bearing exercises will in the long run do more than cardio for your overall fat burning. The effects of a greater degree of lean tissue as mentioned is something that is always at work.
