I finaly have got a decent workout going.. at least, I have the tools for working my arms out (TY trainers!) Running constantly, also working my back, chest, and shoulders with a touch of leg workout. For any part of my workout, what is the most I should work it out a week? Basicaly, I am attempting to gain upper body muscle mass, if that makes any differance. I have a tendancy to over do stuff so want to make sure that I get the most results, without breaking. :dumbbell:

I personally work each muscle once a week. Resting = growth.

frequency will depend on a few things - how many bodyparts/what kind of split are you doing?
How long have you been lifting? beginners don't need to work split routines or really do small muscle isolation - build a good foundation with large muscle, compound exercises.
How much rest do you get?
How is your nutritional support for growth and recovery?

One key, you do not grow in the gym contrary to belief. You tear down and get catabolic in the gym. Nutrition plus rest equals growth.

I guess maby what I am asking is, some people (Hecdarec) say to work out once a week, then you have people that workout incessently (1,000 crunches a day, and that is the warm up) and I am trying to get a better understanding on what is going to be fast, healthy, and aid in growth. Maby I am just a bit too new to this, but I am kind-a looking for more specific info, rather than the science.

I dont work out once a week. I work out 4-5 times a week but I work different muscles everyday.

Monday/Legs
Wed/Shoulders/Triceps
Thursday/Back/Biceps
Saturday/Chest

I do abs 3 times a week. I do cardio 3-4 times a week and I mix it up. Like BB1 said rest and nutrition. Those are just as high on my list as the actual workout.

To be honest man I dont know if there is a final key. I do the protein shake immediately after I work out. I also drink a 12 oz gatoreade and take my creatine. Most of the time I do four sets. I try to go to failure. It depends on if I have a spotter most of the time. I try to keep everything as simple as possible for myself. I dont aspire to be a bodybulder so I dont do all of the extreme stuff. I just do a solid workout and keep a solid diet to try to keep myself feeling and looking good.

There is no one workout works for everyone. We are all different, have different levels of pain thresholds, and we need to work out to our means. The primary thing to remember, is do a workout you can recover properly from. If you are doing Arnold's workout because he was a Mr. Olympia, you will never probably gain any muscle, as you will most probably never be able to recover from it. Your recovery time equals growth. Find what works for you, learn your body.:dumbbell::)

Cool. that sounds like good advice, I recover fast from a workout, I could work my arms everyother day easy, and I have been running for 12 years, I run every day for the most part.. and Pain? that is just weakness leaving the body  Thanks bb1fit
