It takes between 10-15 lbs of muscle to add one inch to you arms and the rest of you body...most add this in a 6 month to a year. 6 inches to your arms may not be a realistic goal. I started with 14 inch arms in 94 10 years later I have 18.5....But I did not really understand what I was doing ofr a few years. If you diet is clean and good and you train smart and hard 3 inches may be done I think in 15 months......:)

thanks mutt but i mean overall 6 inches to arms not just 6 inchews to biceps i realize 6 inches to total diameter is probally easier then just 6 to biceps or triceps.over all my arms are 15" all the way around for the left and 15 1/2 for the right i realistically want 22 inches all the way around so about 12-18 months sound right?
if this makes any more sense?

Ok. What I am trying to say is that 22 inch arms while a very nice goal to shoot for will not be gained in 12 months 15 months or even 3 years. If you can add 7 inches in 12 months with out taking roids or something dangerous like that( and you WILL not make gains like that even taking roids) then you should quti your job and go compete. I am NOT trying to discourage you. With hard work I believe or time 20 maybe even 22 inche is possible total natural ( with out drugs). But set more realistic goals for the short term, then mid term, then long term. SO in the next 6-12 months plan to hit 2-3 inches. And go from there.

thanks that is alot more realistic mutt. i just wanted to know if it was possible.ok since triceps are 2/3 mass of arms how do you keep them equal with out one getting bigger than the other.this is all new to me at 31 but i am going to stick with it.you are not discouraging me you are actually incouraging me more by being up fron tand honest about it.besides it would help alot to do private security if i were stronger and in a hell of a lot better shape.

Just work you triceps as hard as you biceps. The body has a way of balanceing things out. I agree big arms seems to back people off....I have had a few tell me that I look intimadating cause of my size but that is not what I want LOL. Just eat right train hard and SMART and you will do fine. Just remember that this is a long term thing..you may see some huge gains fast, but those taper off. Good Luck!:dumbbell:

Hey Viking, From what I know Mutt is right on. Don't expect more than about 10-15lbs of Lean Muscle Gains for a year. So adding 2-3" on your Arms in 12-15 months, is attainable, but deffinately not 6".

Focus on Form, and you should not have to worry about one side being smaller than the other, as you continue to work out, your body starts to adapt, and the weaker side will catch up and equalize. Dumbbells are also great to help you get equal strength to each side, as you can't cheat, or have one arm or side lift more than the other.

Good Luck man :dumbbell:

Your test levels will be your final determinate in how much/fast you gain. Proper lifting, rest and diet will make you gains. Some folks gain faster, and this is due to higher test levels. Testosterone decreases with age.

Reamember body buider who have big arms are usually in there 40's and been training for 12 -15 plus years......just a note...............asl focase on the big excercise's that display the most mass, barbell curls, pretcher curls, incline curls , close grip bench, skull crushers, tricpe press downs stay away form the isolation ones for right now, when you get a rock, you can carve it later! For me body building excercises work the best high reps, you'll have to toy around and see what works best for you

Also, think of "illusion." As your bodyfat drops and as you add a couple of inches to your overall muscle structure, you may look larger as you begin to take that bodybuilder shape. IMO, adding 2 inches to 15% bodyfat won't look as good as adding 2 inches to 8% bodyfat.
