I know doing a bench press or push up, changing the position of your arms will work varying areas of your chest, but how about standing during squats? Do your legs always need to be shoulder width? Does pointing the toes in our out more make a difference?

Thanks,
Tim

I wouldn't necesarrily mess with foot postion with squats because its such a tedious and potentially dangerous exercise when not done properly. Don't misquote me, squats are great and can be safe. Change your foot position with something more controlled like leg presses or hack squats. Put feet together to work the outside quads more, further apart the feet, the more you'll work the inside portion of the legs. The further up the feet on the platform, the more you'll work hammies. You're still working the leg all around but just with more emphasis on these parts. If you want to do this squat, just be careful.

At this point I don't have access to a gym so I am unable to do the hack squats. Is there an exercise which doesn't require a machine?

OH, k...if you are not going to gym, then I can assume you are not going too heavy with squatting? If this is the case, still, wear a belt for back support. Follow the instructions on foot postioning from above. Remember, head up, ass out, elbows underneath the bar.

hahahahahaha..... that's a funny description.... hehe... anyhoo... how much is too much... I currently use 65 pounds and it's not too much of a problem... my FT routine says to do 15/15/12/10, but I can do 18 each set...

Light enough, should be no problems unless you are completely doing them wrong. Good luck.

hahahahaha... I think there's another name for that and I'm sure it's not 'squats!'

It's a matter of preference. Some prefer having their feet closer together (I prefer this as well with my toes slightly pointed outward).

You take strain away from your knees when you squat with your feet pointed out word.
