...if that makes any sense...

I'm in the is 12 week fitness program/competition... been doing fairly well... or so I thought...

I've gained about half a percent in body fat, half a pound in fat weight and lost about a pound of muscle. Is this normal? I'm doing the home based program from ft and the Ab Program too... but it seems I'm going backwards...

I'm not eating garbage, or too much anyway... certainly not the amount of junk food I had over the summer...

I guess I'm wondering if I should shift my focus. The program I'm in is awards more points for muscle gain than fat loss.

Argh! And there is only six weeks left!

Who is doing your measuring and are you sure that it is accurate? Something doesn't sound right.

The fitness centre at the college in town is doing it... and I'm pretty sure of it's accuracy... it seems a little weird to me too...

I think I'm gonna shift my focus a bit to see what happens!

I should add the triceps are good.. and so are my thighs.. both have lost fat... I'm more worried about the abs and where the muscle went and where the fat came from! Darn Saturday nights! :)

Hydration and other factors can affect your composition test. the difference you register is minimal.
As you get leaner it gets more accurate, because it is easier to pull the fat up for measuring (if you are getting tested with caliers.)
Don't let this put you into a tailspin, make sure you are eating enough prtein and stay away from the refined carbs.
If you are looking leaner and feeling good, half a pound of fat and a pound of muscle are really not much, you could probably go back the next day and have a different reading.
It is working, don't get discouraged!!!

Thanks for the support.. I guess what really ticks me off is that I've been working my gluts off for six weeks and have seen what appears to be a backward progression... I think I see a difference, but then again I see myself everyday so it's hard to really tell... the only thing I can do is continue on and hope for more change!

I am getting tested with calipers and a tape measure... and am getting support from my family, which is good as I think I almost spend too much time at this!

Maybe you should consider taking photos, they make it easier to see changes that you otherwise wouldn't notice because you see yourself every day. Do them every 2-3 weeks and compare.

Good idea! They have taken a before picture and will take an after one, but one every couple of weeks is a good idea!

Thanks,
