I have gotten where I very much enjoy my weight training, even if it is painful at times, but yesterday I had a really bad day. I am usually willing to try anything James (my trainer) suggests but last night he wanted me to do "walking" lunges and I just told him no way!!! I was tired and just could not push myself! I made sure I had plenty of protein and carbs yesterday, so I do not know what could have caused this!

Deby, I think everyone has those days once in a while. Sometimes w/ me it's not enough carbs but other times it could be not enough sleep, too much stress, etc. My last two workouts I've just kept thinking, &**$ this! Sometimes if I take a couple days off and rest I can go back with a stronger resolve which is what I'm doing. When I'm not giving 100% I'm just wasting my time. Don't be too hard on yourself, just take the rest your body's telling you you need and then when you get back to the gym give it everything you've got.

We are in this for the long haul; sure, every day is important but it's also important to listen to your body's cues. We're only human *hugs* JR

Thanks Ravenwolf! I think maybe I just have not been sleeping well this week, nothing obvious like waking up in the middle of the night but just not feeling rested when I get up. I won't be working out tonight so I plan on getting a good night sleep and "doing nothing" tomorrow because I have to be back at the gym Sunday morning at 9 a.m. I think James was disappointed that I didn't even try to do the walking lunges but, oh well!! Hopefully, if he wants me to try them Sunday I will be able to.

Like everyone else here, deby, we all have a bad day now and then. I've noticed that if I am stressed or if I've had a tiff with the hubster then my mind isn't there 100% and I struggle with my reps. I have a terrible time with those walking lunges and also tried them for the first time towards the end of leg day and got an awful cramp in my right ham. Had to stop and try again another day. Hang in there, you're not alone. ;-)

Oh yeh.. bad days can be such a blow to the momentum we get going. Nothing crushes me more than showing up at the gym, feeling reasonably good.. then having my usual weight loads laugh at me. The other day (near the end of my workout) I went to one of my shoulder machines.. set my usual weight.. and didn't even get it up once! (ooo that sounds bad) I was seriously ticked off at myself. (and mighty embarrased as well)

Deby...how long has it been since you've taken some time off from training? Seriously...if you've been months without a weeklong break, you should consider it. Sometimes you have to force yourself to take a break, but it does pay off. Best to you.

You guys make me laugh!!! That is funny!!! I have been training with a trainer for 2-1/2 months but I usually on "weight train" twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Otherwise I do just cardio and that is only 3 or 4 times per week total.

You're doing great Deby... I've just come out of a bad two weeks. Junk food, no exercise, gained 4lbs.(Egads!), the whole shabang. So it's back in it for me again. Soooo, if you're feeling bad and getting down on yourself- remember me and feel better!!!

Your program sounds great and you just keep doing what you are doing. I notice by your profile and posts that you are a middle age lady like me and we should feel proud to be out there trying. You will get results believe me. I am a five year work in progress. I started at 45 years old and there are always challenges and hurdles. Keep your eye on the prize.

Well this week (actually since Saturday) I have lost 7 lbs!!!!! I guess my body is FINALLY giving it up, it is about time. I was really starting to wonder if I would ever drop a pound. I just keep gaining muscle and losing body fat but the weight would not move!!! I am having a much better week, I still have not done the walking lunges but James has not asked me to do that again. I did REALLY deep deep squats last night on the squat machine where the weights are on your shoulders, that was FUN!!! NOT!!! But I did 3 sets of 10 with no extra weight.

We all have bad days. Hang in there. It is the bad days that make the good days that much more enjoyable. There is always another one right around the corner. Congrats on your accomplishment! Keep up the good work. You are doing great.

I LOVE this website. You are all so friendly and HELPFUL!!! I have learned so much. One thing I have learned all on my own, though, is Lose it and Shape it up while you are YOUNG!!!! I have told my daughter (33) and my daughter-in-law (31) to DO IT NOW, don't wait, it definitely does not get any easier!!!
