Every Dec. 31, millions of Americans vow to start the new year right by losing weight, quitting smoking, eliminating toxic relationships, getting organized or exercising more. By the end of February, only a few determined souls will have stuck with their new routines. The rest will have returned to their old habits and will be left feeling frustrated over their lack of discipline. It doesn't have to be that way.The mistake most people make when they consider their New Year's resolutions is that they think change is simply about willpower.

I always laugh when it comes around to January. The gym is totally FULL of new faces and totally crowded. Then about mid-January to February it tapers off, then by spring it's just down to us regulars again. You gotta love it to stick with it I guess. I just cringe when I think of the money wasted!

Yeah, if they want to shell out money, they could give it to me :o)

Jan and Feb are the busiest months of the year for me and the rest of the industry. Next, it's April/May, as people realize swimsuit season is right around the corner.

Well, I am a "sticker"!! I joined the gym January 4 and have been going ever since. I have been working out with a trainer since March 16, have lost 10-1/2 pounds of body fat and gained 9-1/2 pounds of muscle!!! The problem is I am not losing weight! :o( What am I doing wrong? I have more than 50 pounds to lose.

actually I think I am also one of the January joiners. Well, I am not sure, I have never been a "Monday resolution syndrome" person, but I happened to join last year in january. I have been going since. I wasn't training this much disciplined, but I went at least 2-3 times a week, just to make sure my money is not wasted. this year, I have been working out and dieting for the past 10 weeks.
Deby, you are not doing anything wrong if you are working out and eating much better than you used to. IT TAKES A HELL A LOT OF TIME FOR FEMALES. Just last week, I was so frustrated, I posted 100 messages on the forum asking questions. and people were very helpful, this week, I suddenly lost 2 more lbs. for the past 10 weeks I lost a total of 6 lbs and gained a lot of muscle mass.
just keep on what you are doing... give yourself a long time like 6 months. If you don't see any difference than feel discouraged.
good luck... NEVER QUIT...

Thanks gbaser! Encouragement is always helpful!! I keep telling myself I am losing inches where I am not being measured. I think maybe I am not eating enough, I started with FitDay again yesterday to try to get an accurate account of what I am eating. My trainer asked me to write down all my food for a few days, so I am doing that. Yesterday, before dinner, I only had 991 calories! That is just a little more than half of what I am supposed to have for the day. I am just not used to eating that much. But, I walk for 30 minutes at lunch and do the elliptical for 30 minutes (burned 341 cals last night) and the 1 hour weight training 2 - 3 times per week, I need more food.
