G'day,
I've been doing deadlifts with both hands in an overhand grip, but ft tells me to use one hand over and one under in an alternate grip.
Could someone explain the difference? Is it easier to use the former but less beneficial?
Cheers.

No real difference in the actual work just that the atlernate grips lets you have a more stable grip at times. I do not use it but there is no real harm in it.

Personally,I also use the overhand grip, but I use lifting straps so that I can handle more weight and it provides A LOT of stability. I would rather my body give out before my grip (I do seperate grip work though for forearms).

There really is no major plus or minus by using different grips, just mostly preference. I personally used the over/under - I just felt more comfortable with it, and, in my opinion, had more stability, like Mutt said. You are able to use straps with the over/under, but I never did; they're not allowed in competition.

I use the oeverhand and just use straps in the last set working to get rid of them totaly. Just try it either way and see what ya think!

thanks guys
there cant be any harm in trying
but i gotta say I'm not too keen on trying a fancy new grip... deadlifts are pretty hardcore and if my hands dont do their job properly my back may not appreciate it.
