I'm on my sixth week of the basic in-home program using 2lb weights. I posted before I'm a female 5'4" started at 150 lbs with a goal of losing 5-10 lbs or being a consistent size 8 in clothes. In response to my previous post it was recommended to get more calories and work out less frequently. The result is....GAINED 4-7 pounds, I can't really tell each time I get on the scale it's different (the gain has been over three weeks). Sure...I am a little firmer, but I feel bulkier. My clothes are getting tighter - not looser :o(. I realize that increasing my calories could produce additional weight, plus it was very difficutlt for me to properly increase calories...Although not an overeater, I did reintroduce cake back into my life without exceeding 1,600 calories. Late at night, I get really hungry...I feel like someone should host a telethon to feed ME! I can't get a decent nights sleep because of the emptiness in my stomach. And I'm worried if I eat, I'll gain.

Why can't I lose any weight or at least get any smaller?

You don't have your profile filled in, so it's hard to help with specifics. I'd think the emptiness in your stomach is a sign that your body is starving.

When I started, I thought the same thing about the calories, and I was not eating enough. Once I did what was suggested here, I've seen results. The scale is not much different at all, but I have more firmness, I'm losing inches in my measurements, and I FEEL better. Honestly, I would not think cake is something that should be included in your calories if you are wanting to lose weight. I think the calories should be clean calories with the right proportions of protein, carb, fat.

I weigh more than you, and I have a LOT more to lose. When I started, I was told 1 gram protein per lbs body weight, .5 gram carb per pound, and .25 gram fat per carb along with 1oz water per lb body weight. This puts me at 1850 or so calories a day. I was given a list of the types of foods that should make up all of my calories...tuna, salmon, chicken breast, cottage cheese, egg whites, brown rice, kidney beans, lima beans, green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, walnuts, carrots, strawberries, peaches, grapefruit, apples, oatmeal, olive oil, soybeans, tomatoes, etc. I eat six times a day..7am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, & 9pm. If I'm up extra late, I will also eat something at midnight. I track my protein, carb, and fat intake with an excel spreadsheet that I made myself. I input who much of everything I put in my mouth along with protein/carb/fat content of each meal. Typical exercise program per week is weight lifting on Saturday & Sunday at the gym along with 15 minutes cardio and then additional 30 minutes cardio on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at home.

I am seeing results with this, and I got all of the information from here. I'm not at all saying that you should be doing what I'm doing. But take a look at the kind of foods you are eating. When they say to take in a certain number of calories a day, they don't mean to eat just any food. I've always been told it should be good clean healthy foods. As a wise womam once told me, "If you put junk in, junk is what will come out."

Don't get discouraged. You aren't alone. :) Just figure out what is holding you back and resolve it so you can move on to success!

Btw, sorry for the long post. :)

This was a great post! I am not discouraged and not ready to give up, but I started this weighing 198 and now weigh 204. I know I have gained muscle and lost body fat but my clothes are not fitting differently either. BUT I did not have two things this weekend that let me know that I am changing, even if it is VERY slow!!! The top of my left arm was itching and I reached across to scratch and I didn't have as far to reach!!! Also, when I put my brand new bra on this morning it was lose!!!

don't quit!
whatever you do, don't give up. you've put in too much time trying to do the right thing by your body to give in to its stubborness.
if you are hungry, then eat! if you don't give your body the fuel it needs to survive, then it will continue holding on to the fuel (fat) it has stored already. it's your body's way of saving you from starvation. AND the 1st thing your body uses when it's starving is nutrient rich and protein full MUSCLE. that's the one thing you don't want to lose because it helps speed up your metabolism. if you give your body the fuel it requires, it will more readily release your fat stores.
try adding MORE healthy food to your diet. here is a list of foods that burn more calories to digest than they contain:
broccoli cabbage cucumbers
carrots celery garlic
lettuce onions papayas
spinach cauliflower apples
cranberries grapefruit tangerines
lemons mangos pineapples
raspberries strawberries
try adding lots of these in place of the cake. when i say lots, i mean LOTS. also add more protein so that you are feeding your muscles
again whatever you do, don't quit! you've given too much to go back. you've come to far to let your body be the boss of how you feel and look.

Thanks Ron! I have a trainer who I trust explicitly but everyone on here has been so helpful and encouraging. Do not give up "PRUSGIRL", just let all the "experts" on this site know what you need and somebody will have a great answer for you.

I also recommend www.fitday.com this site helped me a lot to see what I was eating, and what i could eat instead of a small candy bar... (a whole yummy sandwich) if you have cravings for cake make it yourself. eg. angelcake has eggwhites, and has almost no fat... decrease sugar to a minimum, or add fruit when you are eating it (put strawberries in a blender and mix them, there is your topping) do not buy those horrible cakes from the grocery, when you read them you will see that you only know the meaning of 2-3 words on there...

DON'T QUIT. your body gained all that weight in years, it will need at least a few months to learn to live healthy :)

The worst thing you could do is quit. It takes time and you notice only the small things at first. It will all come together within time. 5-10 pounds isn't a lot to lose anyway so as you put on the muscle, it will seem like you are not making any progress. Give it a few more weeks of hard training and I am sure that you will get to see some of the results you are going for.

Don't give up! You can do it. Sometimes we have small setbacks and thats ok, it happens. Just eat clean and workout hard! it takes time to see results sometimes up to 3 months. Just hang in there. Good luck.

Patience...Patience....Patience.
You will eventually start to see some nice curves appear.
Give it time. You are sheeding fat if you are working out and eating properly.
For you empty feeling, you might want to have a protein snack. Shake, or tuna, or some cottage cheese in the evening.
Take a tape measure and record your findings, then check again in a month. I'd be curious to know the results.
Keep up the good work, and remember, you are doing it for you!

THANK YOU ALL!!! I enjoyed reading the messages, especially those that gave me food tips, that's the hardest part for me is figuring out what to eat. I will say that fitday.com is great and I realized I am not eating clean - thanks G!

Well, I'll let everyone know what happens...but I will say the new diet is going to be very hard, especially because it's picnic season (potato salad, pie, cake, meats with barbeque sauce...I can go on and on). But, I'm going to be very serious, especially reducing/eliminating certain carbs like white rice, white potatoes etc.

THANKS AGAIN!

Prusgirl,
Make sure to give yourself a cheat day every once in awhile. Knowing there is a cheat day just around the corner is the only thing that keeps me eating clean. After eating clean for a few weeks, it will just come natural and you won't miss the junk nearly as much. Stick to it and give it time.
