Although the answer to this question won't stop me from donating blood, I'm just curious. Thanks.

It can make you tired yes but that's it. You can still train.

I think so. Anytime I donate, I usually take that week off from training. Think about it: blood is used to feed and heal the muscle, as well as remove waste from it. When you donate blood, your body is already freaking out because a substantial amount of it's life juice has been sucked out, and it is trying to replace it. The last thing your body needs is the additional stress of training, and all you'll do is end up hurting your progress.

I have to agree with rev8ball, your body is going to have to work to maintain homeostasis after giving blood, no need to overwork yourself by placing additional stresses on the body.

Yes, it does have an impact on your workout program. I find myself lacking full energy for several days after donating. I can see why Rev takes that week off. However, donating blood is a good thing and actually has some benefits to the body but, you need to be aware that your energy level will be depleted for a few days.

Rev, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. Every 8 weeks or so, I'll probably donate, each time on a rest week.

You know I worked out the day after I gave blood and I felt fine. I don't think my trainer worked me as hard as he would have, but I did not have any problems at all.

Everybody's different and so everybody has a different reaction after giving blood. They do say to take it easy.
Years ago I was working in an office, gave blood on my lunch hour and during the afternoon was working really hard clearing old boxes of files. Ended up feeling light headed and nearly fainted. I'd say you'd be better to give your body a break from the training for a couple of days after donating to give your system time to replenish. Working it in with your rest period shouldn't interrupt your training much.
