i was wondering if potatoes were a good source of carbs. i'm talking about the original potatoe, not the sweet potatoes or yams. is it low on the glycemic index? i sometimes have a meal of steak and some baked potatoes in my bulking cycle and was wondering if that was a good combination?

The red potatoes are much lower on the glycemic scale than regular white potatoes.

The "normal" ones as you put it are pretty high on the GI scale. If you must have them, have a salad with vinegar dressing, or spinach with vinegar or similar, it helps lower the GI along with protein. White potatos are actually used by some for immediately post training meal to help bring blood sugars up, that is pretty extreme. the difference is one chemical that red potatoes either lack or have that white don't , amalose or something to that effect. Don't remember exactly what it is(spelling wise).

abayaa, there are different types of potatoes (sweet, white, red), and all have different impact on insulin. in addition, no potato is 'bad' in and of itself. it depends greatly on how and when you eat them, and what kind.
