Just need to get this out. I'm tired of being told that I'm 'cute' when I'm working out. It's like guys think that I'm sweet for trying. The truth is that I'm working harder that half of the big grunty men who do a set and sit for five minutes to talk with the other big grunty men. No offense to men whatsoever, I admire those who actually put in the effort, but I want to be recognised for my effort! What bothers me is the fact that I'm not taken seriously. I do most of my lower body training through ballet and pilates, and most of the other people, look at me like I'm a joke. You don't have to hit the machines to get in shape! It's like walking into the gym with a pair of pointe shoes immediately writes me off as less than serious. Guess what, I dance on my toes. My entire body has to be very strong to do that. It's got nothing to do with your feet, it's core muscles. My toes blister and bleed, and I just keep going. I'm tired of being 'cute'. I'm tired of being 'just a little girl'. I want to be taken seriously! I'm a person who puts in tons of work, not a weak little girl. Sorry about the rant, it's been a long day. I'll be in a better mood tomorrow.

Way to go Effalunt! Keep up the good work and remember, your doing it for you because YOU enjoy it! Wish I can stand on my toes (or my hands) for that matter!

The more you go, the less they'll notice, all of a sudden you'll get people coming up to you asking if you want to workout with them...

Working out is an individual sport. They are not on your "team". You do not have to work out to make their team. You are doing it for yourself. Focus on your workout as you are and tune them out.

You know what would stop that? A well placed knee to the . . . uh, no don't do that. I shouldn't advocate violence anymore. I say just flash them a a sarcastic smile and go back to your business. Or better yet, tell them to quit worrying about your workout and to get back to theirs.

Just learn to ignore them; they probably dont realize how sensitive you are about it. Sometimes the atmosphere is very dull in a gym.
