Hi to everyone.... I have been working out for about a month and I kept on weighing myself on the Gym scale .Then I decided to buy my own scale cause I only had time to weigh myself after workouts ( which is not that great because you tend to weigh a little bit more)Well I tried 5 different scales in the store to believe what my eyes were seeing and I could not believe it I weighed 8 pounds less....So if you weigh yourself try different scales don't trust JUST ONE.....

scales are only a guide. As long as you weigh yourself the same time on the same scale then you dont have a problem. What you can also do is use a tape measure or a string to see results. And like Philia says "the mirror doesn't lie!

Actually, the mirror CAN lie! Perception can greatly influenced by what we expect to see. For example, a great deal of thin people or even anorexics with low self esteem 'think' they're fat even when they look in the mirror. Of course this isn't true, it's just their mind altering what they perceive.
Also, gradual changes over time are very difficult to detect with a mirror. For example, when you age, you don't see the difference from day to day, but when you compare yourself to old photos then you can see the difference. Just looking in the mirror from day to day, you might not think you're changing in appearance at all.
For me, I find the scale + size measurements to be the only accurement guage of progress, or lack of progress, because they're free of bias from perception. Of course, not all scales are accurate, but they can at least be used to detect a change in weight. Personally, I've weighed myself on a few scales and they're all no more than a pound off.
Just something to think about....

the best guides are the results of where u want to be. take a photograph of your self now in a swimsuit, and another one in a few months and compare them.... ooooo the differences you'll see! or, how about your clothes: how are they fitting now vs. then? looser around the waist, but firm on your thighs? or how about your training? are you benching 225 now when then you were only at 150? these are but a few of the MANY things one can use to gauge their progress.

I agree with Rev ball if you are serious about the weightloss, if you use a scale make sure it's accurate and only use it once a week. Your bodyweight varies on a 5 pound scale, take note of that if you are a gal! (hello water retention) hmm..whatelse. Oh the psychology, yah perception does have an effect on the mirror. For me, with a constant flucation of weight, even when I am a lower weight, I still see a larger size, I like to stick to using my doc's scale once aweek to see how I am doing. hope this helps...and keep the awsome work. :) ============ Quoting from ravenwolf:
For me the best time to weigh my self is in the morning. I weigh my self every Friday but still don't pay that much attention to it. IF my clothes are fitting looser then I am happy. Good luck with the work out Nica and keep up the good work. =============

Since I have been heavy aal my life I kinda stopped using scales all that much. The only time I use them is when the Docs office makes me go on it. I find that relying onthe scale makes me depressed. You except to see a weight loss. Well anyone that has lifted for a while knows that tho you might lose size muscle weighs more. For me I lose size but see little weight loss.....therefore I use a cloth tape measure and use my clothes to tell me how I am doing. So lets review scales=bad! tape measure=good! LOL have a great day!

i have noticed that the scales that are found in the DR offices and my gym weigh me 10 lbs heavier than the one i use when i go to my parents house. i obviously like the latter results :) but i keep my measurements and get my body fat tested and like to use that as my main guide.
