My husband is taking me to climb the peaks of otter on Saturday as part of my birthday present. Last time I tried it I felt like I was going to die. Hopefully this time I will leave him in the dust. It is around a 2 mile hike straight up a mountain but once you are at the top it is well worth it. If there is any members at FT that lives in Virginia and hasn't tried it yet they are missing out. I encourage everyone to hike this mountain or one close to them. I LOVE IT!!!! I let everyone know how I did when I get back.

yes, the mountains are the ultimate. Colorado is my favorite place in the world. I did flattop mountain, always wanted to do Long's Peak. I/we love Colorado(the mountains) so much we are moving there next year just to near them! How awesome it must be to be able to get up in the morning and say I am going climbing today! 15 minutes away instead of 36 hrs! Getting up in the peaks is the ultimate. Best of luck to you, you will do it with no problem, and the rewards, well, I don't have to tell you that.

I went through the Army Mountain Warfare School so I know climbing can be a blast. Take your time on the ascent and realize that climbing is a whole different workout and requires training specific to mountaineering. Is your climb technical at all, e.g., rope teams, ice climbing, rock climbing, etc.? Regardless, have fun and be safe.

Sheesh... that takes courage. Good Luck to you. I am scared to look over that edge! I can't go higher than a 6' step ladder!
