Actually you will be gaining muscle when lifting weights....but you still have the flab there if u continue your current nutrition habbits...focus on eating MORE-but healthy and kick up ur cardio some;)

You can never "waste your time" when you work out. You'll always get positive results for your heart and body BUT if you don't eat right next to, well yes then it'll take a lot longer for you to get to the desired results.
It's your body and your choice.

I am totally in agreement with Philia2....you can never waste your time in training unless you are one of those who try to dress with the coolest gym outfit and do nothing but socialize. If you are in there actually training, you will see changes. Try just small changes in your diet at first, gradually ease yourself out of some of the bad habits with food. Sometimes if you try to do it all at once, it gets overwhelming, and you quit. So keep on pushing, you are doing more than the average couch potato, and will show it too. Best of luck.

as far as the pop goes, it won't hurt you too much. What hurts you most there is the carbonation. and that doesn't seem to affect everyone. As for me, I don't ever drink soda. I got used to drinking fruit juice, lemonade, gatorade, and a lot of water, and now soda just doesn't taste good to me. Of course, I do still have a beer or two now and again.
