Hey everyone,Here is my training schedule: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun: 1Hour Weight training 30 min cardio My problem is that I have only lost about 6 lbs since I have started this program about a month ago. I have went from 180 to 174. Even though I haven't lost much weight I can tell that I am losing inches everywhere. And I feel alot better than I did a month ago. Should I be getting as frustrated as I am by not losing the weight since I am losing inches? Please help! Remember, muscle weighs more than fat! Often, the scale is the worst indicator of improved fitness and overall progress. I would trust have my clothes feel. Keep up the good work and don't get frustrated. Your on your way to a healthier lifestyle!! |

Dont get frustrated measure your self instead of weighing. I went through the same thing lost about 15 lbs and seem to be staying there but the inches are still going and muscles are growing and I feel great. You mentioned you are dropping size that is what matters. Keep going your doing great.-------------- Never be afraid to try something new. Go by how your clothes fit and the mirror. The scale will drive you crazy! As previously stated, muscle weighs more than fat, so you could actually gain weight but look much better. It sounds like you are on the right track. And remember, the more muscle you have, the fat you burn than the average person, even at rest! |

I think that there are many other things we overlook when we use the scale as our only measurement for progress. All of these are subjective, but no less important.The weight issue will take care of itself if you keep actively working out. Most of us get into this because we are trying to improve our lives. In the meantime, here are a few things to consider. Ask yourself a few of these questions: 1. How am I carrying myself? Has my posture improved? 2. How do I feel? Has my general sense of well being improved? 3. Am I going forward? Does my life feel more proactive in nature? 4. Have I met, or engaged people differently since I started this thing? 5. Am I taking care of myself better in other areas? 6. What's my attitude been like? 7. Has my motivation to do other non-related things increased? 8. Has my general character seemed to change any? Am I becoming an advocate for myself where I may not have in the past? These are just a few things that I have noticed that I have received good results with as a result of working out and doing a few other things too. I am grateful for the results that I have received in my body (no longer a bird-chest, have a decent set of guns, etc...)since I started working out. More importantly, I have come to recognize that the true treasure here has less to do with the physical aspects, and more to do with mental - spiritual gains (for me). -------------- "When going through hell......DON'T STOP" |

Hi Marcy,You are doing great. I have been doing weights since Jun 24. I was averaging 1 lb a week. Try this: Eliptical start at say level 7 for a 3 minute warm-up. level 8 for 1 min 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 13, 12, 11, stay at level 10 until you have 3 minutes left drop it back down to seven for the remaining 3 min. What is your diet like? Shoot for 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. You may have to up your calories, I had too. This may sound weird but it worked for me. Before I was averaging 1500 cals, weights 3x week, total cardio 70-80 min. Now its 2000-2200 cals, weights 3x week, cardio 120 min using the above method. I dropped 4 lbs in two weeks and lost 1.6% fat, maintaining LBM. (Using calipers) Try this for a couple of weeks if you are looking for scale weight as well. Remember BF% is more important then that stupid scale. Let me know how it works if you decide to give it a go.
