I haven't been here in a while and I'm so impressed by how inspiring everyone is! I have really been letting things slide since I quit smoking in Jan, also had a situation where I had to take meds that made me lazy and hungry and just haven't been able to get it in gear since. Last week I got a gym membership (have been doing all my weights workouts at home for over a year) and I've been having a blast trying out all the new STUFF! Now after coming here I'm ready to whip my diet into shape again. I know I'm too late for the contest but is it okay to start a journal here like Gwin's just to hold myself accountable?
This website rocks... even though I'm mostly a lurker you guys have been inspiring me for a long time now! Coming here always makes me feel enthusiastic again. Thanks everyone! |

JessicaR, start your journal, it is a great inspriration to others to hear of conquests, and shows that everyone is human when they fail a little, however it goes for you I wish you the best of luck and I can't wait to read your journal.

LOL, I will do it! Sandy, I was sorry to see you weren't doing the Caveman after all since it actually is close enough for me to drive - I was thinking about going and watching it. I've never been to a competition before and I thought it would be inspiring! Hopefully soon you'll be competing; you look great.
You can't be too far from me since I noticed BB was in the Northern KY comp, right? I'm in Central Ky. |

Jessica, we are just south of St. Louis in a little town called Festus. I would be thrilled if you would drive up to see the show, but it is a few miles from you lol. We had a good time driving to KY for that show. Did you go to the KY show? I am going to compete next year at the show me naturals, flab under the butt or not, I will be on that stage.-------------- I will lift my own weight someday!!!!! Okay, you're right - that is farther than I thought! I didn't find out about the Ky show until after it had already happened - when I read about it on here (congrats to bb btw). I've never been to one but I'd love to go. We do a lot of driving; my hb and I have a guitar shop and we go to all the guitar shows around here. So four or five hours is just a day trip.
Flab on the wha... those teeny shorts in your pic must be hiding it pretty well! ROFL |

You're right (I'm surprised lol ;) I will ensure that I don't burn myself out - I am aware that I could possibly get sick if and when all this icky stuff goes away (if ever). The best thing about it all, is that I feel stress free upon leaving the gym - I upped my weights and feel challenged and that I am succeeding - and it feels like I am somehow winning the battle - at least at the gym! LOL
Watch out!!! I think I can almost see those shy pesky abs - but then again, it might just be a shadow! LOL |

LOL @ Jessica.
You know, at my gym most if the bigger guys won't use the cute silver dumbbells, even though they are of the same weight as the other "manly" weights! At least I get the weight I want, when I want it, and I don't have to wait/weight! LOL |

Listen think of it this way, if a person has a 1 rep max at 5lbs and regualrly lifts 3-4 lbs they are in fact "powerlifting", just as a man that lifts a 1rep mak of 500lbs and uses 400 in his workouts is powerlifting. it is all relative never be afraid or ashamed of the weights you use, I weigh 300lbs and only squat 300lbs, while a guy that weighs maybe 180 is doing 405, it is all about doing what you can do and not backing down!!!-------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I agree completly RW - There are so many people (sorry, it's usually men where I workout) that sacrifice their form for more weight. I guess they fear they might appear weak if they use less. I dunno, but I would rather see controlled slower execution with less weight - it makes me believe that they really know what they are doing.
Hey Mutt - I am getting 10 reps with my 110! (Just liked to hear y'all tell me Im doing good! LOL)Thanks man! |

I_Am-azon, I am still here and going strong, trying to set up a new workout the old one is boring me now. Going to set up a new diet and workout so I can still gain and lose more fat. All the women at the last show we went to weighed in anywhere from 110 to 118, I have some weight to lose but I don't want to give up the muscle. PS My dumb bells are steel grey, 25 lb curls, they don't make those in pink. Keep up the good work ladies, we are on our way to victory. and in the name of good sportsmanship you guys are doing great keep it up and you just might win this thing, NOT!!!!

Azon, I have noticed that at our gym, too - there are always silver 12 lb dumbells lying around the free weight section and no one ever uses them! Don't you wonder how they got there in the first place when everyone avoids them like the plague?
You guys I was just kidding about the purple dumbells... LOL Although I do have some that I used when I started out and they really did the job for a while - so I will zip my lip. LOL |

"Keep up the good work ladies, we are on our way to victory. and in the name of good sportsmanship you guys are doing great keep it up and you just might win this thing," Until the NOT!!!! LOL. Gotta keep those guys on their toes! Women were 110-118lbs at the last show??! My Ghod, I am pudgy by those standards! LOL Keep up the good work Sandy - new pic looks great! |

When I lost 25 lbs I found the journal most helpful aside from eating less. Not only should you keep an honest journal yes the bites licks and tastes count too but you should write how you felt after the meal or snack, tired, good, energetic, hungry etc..Write down the portion sizes you ate too ie 3 oz of meat, etc. I use to review my journals and see what weeks I was successful and what was on the menu that week, or learned from a bad week. I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping one.
About the 12 lb dumbells, I use them. I do flys on the swiss ball with them and standing arm curls. You would be surprised how heavy they get. Am I the only one??? |

LOL Carivan - I imagine they do!
Well I missed my leg day in the rush to get out of town so I had to make it up today. Went really quickly and it was a good workout! I did okay for the weekend; didn't overdo it too bad but eating on the road is tough. Hopefully we'll be in town for a few weekends. I always do better at home. On journals, I kept one for several months and it was really helpful. Keeping a journal gave me a really good idea of the macronutrient content of a lot of foods I like as well as the amount of food I need in a day. I think it's a great idea for everyone to keep one, at least for a while. |
