Looking for opinions/experience with using workout gloves with the extra wrist support. I find, say for the bench press the stress from the weight acting down on your bones tends to be at the highest level at the weakest point which would be the moving parts like the wrist and elbows, much like buckling force, so by stabilizing with a wrist wrap, your decreasing the stress intensity factor and reduce the chance of injury(or you would think). But I've been hearing that this can have some real significant effects on developing the strength in these areas (more than I initially thought).

I'm getting ready to get some gloves simply because of the huge callouses (sp?) developing on my hands. Of course, I'll skip the gloves if women find rough hands sexy (any input?).

Honestly, as far as bench press is concerned, I wouldn't resort to straps. I've been lifting a long time and no problems here. It sounds logical, your argument that is, that it would put such stress on the joints and all that good stuff. Either way, you're putting pressure on these places regardless of whether or not you are wearing straps. I use straps for deadlift and heavy shrugs simply because I have small hands and couldn't possibly lift the weight without them. I don't wear gloves because callouses are SEXY! LOL
