Recently my little brother has shown an interest in working out. I know how my body works and what not, but im perplexed as to how a 12 year old should extersize and what not. Ive heard that lifting can mess up there growth and that not.
To give you all a bit more information my brother is over weight for his age (like most kids no a days) So any ideas as to where i should start or maybe a good book i can pick up and look into? thanks a ton
Yes it is ok for children to workout. However, you need to take care to make sure they are well watched. They should not use very heavy weights at all. Basic multijointed exercises should be used. Body weight exercises (pushups etc) are also good. cardio and just having fun. I would ask his doctor to make sure of any conditions he may have but if none I would let him lift just keep it nice and light in the 10-15 rep range. Teach proper form first, then in 2-3 years heavier weights can be used....
