Ok I went into the gym today and wow. I was suppose to do lunges, some calve exercises(I always do those with a machine), and a straight legged deadlift. I tried the lunges and I don't know what the deal was, but I did not feel worked at all. The worse thing is I could not hold the dumbbells in my hands long enough to complete many of the target reps for the sets. I also tried doing straight leg deadlift, and I don't get it, but it seems like it is working out my upper body a lot more, does deadlift have to be trained to a certain weight to be effective for your legs, the bad thing about that too is that I am like a bumbling fool trying to load all the plates on I am not that strong and I dont wanna make a total idiot out of myself in the gym... I am thinking of just doing lower body days with machines that's what I did today... I didnt do the prone leg curl today but I did do leg extension and leg press is that going to hurt me a lot... what do you guys think about all of this.

for your lunges, try it eith a bar across your back instead. you can use more weight, and dont have to worry about grip failure.
for your straight leg deadlift, keep your knees slightly bent, keep the bar close to your shins, and keep your back straight. go as low as you can, then straight back up. give it a go again next time you are at the gym, could have been improper form. you could also supplement in a normal deadlift or good morning.
i wouldnt advise JUST machines for legs.. you are missing out on a lot of beneficial training using freeweights. what about squats? they should be the bread and butter of a leg routine.
