Ah, I've always been told when my wisdom teeth began to break through I could feel it, and well, here they come.

I'm curious about what will happen when I go to get them pulled? Pain afterwards, inability to eat? I don't worry about them getting pulled, because I"ll be asleep.

so any advice or re-assurance would be nice :)

thanks!

I was put under as well when I had mine pulled - best thing!

Depending on the circumstances surrounding their removal, the Dr may stitch up the holes or leave them open in order to drain (if infected), in which case, things like rice and ground beef are off limites for about a month. Eating after the sugery, though, is very important. Your body despartly needs the nutrients to start the healing process, and to reinforce your immunity system (protein is important for both accounts). However, if you get put on an antibiotic, you may not be able to consume any diary products, which may null the effects of some antibiotics. The best person to ask about what you will be allowed to eat is your Dr.

In regards to pain: the Dr. may give you a narcotic for the initial pain. But, again, depending on the damage, pain will usually start to decrease on its own within a day or so, and is pretty managable with something like Tylenol after that.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

After having my wisdom teeth pulled, I has no pain the next day. I still had swelling though, but i never had to take any painkillers which my mom wouldn't have let me take anywways. After getting my teeth pulled my main diet was juk, which is a Chinese rice porridge. My main meals were all soup (and ice cream and yogurt), eating anything solid caused discomfort for me and caused the stitched holes a little bleeding.

I had very little pain when having all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. I was also asleep when they pulled them. The Dr. gave me Vicodan for the first 3 days, and then tylenol 3 for any pain afterwards. I really never felt that much pain but took the medicine anyways to prevent any pain I might have had. I went bowling that same night. LOL

I didn't have any problems with pain either. I wasn't under....only had the pleasure of 10 novocaine shots in my gums. I got a scrip for Vicodin, but didn't use any of them. I could eat just about anything I wanted, but you have to make sure you clean out the holes after you eat. The only real problem I had was having to spit out blood every five minutes the night after the surgery.

Being put under is the best way. My dentist gave me a syringe (w/o needle) and had me put warm saltwater in it and flush out the 'holes' after eating. It seems like it took quite a while for them to completely heal, but the pain was short term and manageable. Good luck.

Enough of this "I had very little pain" stuff. I had mine pulled last year and it did not go too smooth. Having the teeth pulled was not a problem ( I was asleep too ) but I ended up getting 2 dry sockets. One on each lower side. The dry sockets were extremely painful and made my life hell for the next week. Too make matters worse, I had followed everything the doc had told me. He said that sometimes you just will get them. Hope this eases your mind LOL

I had mine taken out in May. I was awake and I could feel each one being sucked out of my mouth. It sucked. I was swollen for a couple days. I was eating solid food the next day though. I also was given vicodin and I sold it on the street. That last line was a complete lie.

I'm 47 and have them ALL except 1. The dentist convinced me to have them out way back, I did one, and never went back! LOL why go through the pain if you don't have to.

Got all 4 of mine pulled out in boot camp. I wish I had been asleep. It sucked, it hurt like hell, and I had absolutely no sympathy.
