I was reading espn.com's nba section, and came across an article regarding Kobe Bryant. He said "I was on the track all summer long, two hours a day. I feel like I can run all day."

Now i was wondering if a normal person, like one who goes to the gym maybe 4,5 times a week attempts to do 2 hours on a track every single day during the summer, could it be done? or wud it be idiotic to even attempt, since proffessional athletes are on a whole different level than normal people like us...?
ps - is there anybody on this board who can do that?

hes full of it. pro athletes rarely discuss their training with media. Do you really think running for 2 hours at a low intensity would be helpful in training for a fast paced sport?

Besides that, most athletes following a good program will let their conditioning slip in the off season to focus efforts on technique and strength.

I've done worse. I did rediculus amounts of volume my senior year. But it was very well regulated, cycled, monitored, planned. I had everything down to a t. I was constantly on the verge of overtraining, and had to deload every 3rd week or so.
Strength suffered a lot more than it should have. But it took me from being a nobody to being a state place winner in a rediculusly tough weight class.

I still wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Iron and chalk.

Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. If you can still walk, then you can still run.

sounds like bs....

if he wanted to condition himself...he'd be doing sprints with only occassional distance runs....and probably doing it close to training camp....

my guess is he may have been shooting Js for 2 hours...solidifying his jump shot....practicing moves...etc....ballhandling...ie improving his current skills and learning new ones....as well trying to bulk up...since he lost quite a bit of weight during his trial.....

it's funny the type of bs some athletes try to make the fans believe....

i disagree with u guys - this is an athlete who leads the nba in minutes played - i remember when he played a rugged NBA game in L.A, which went to overtime, and the following day the team flew across the country to New YOrk to play the Knicks, and with little rest and jet leg, he led his team in minutes played again. So i dont think its out of line for him to suggest that he can do what he can do...

Well for 20millon a year....I think i'd work threw the jet lag and soreness. I mean think about it, its not college ball....if he looses he gets paid, if he wins he gets paid. Yes he plays alot...And he should for what he's paid!

yeah i agree with you - for that amount of money i'd obviously do the same thing too - but i was commenting on those who said kobe couldnt do what he was claiming to be doing during the summer time....

we never said he couldn't do it...we said that's not what he does because it's not the best way to prepare for what he does inseason...yes you could run marathons to prepare for the 100meter races...but it's not the best way...neither is what he supposedly claimed he did...
