Running 6 mph for 22 minutes on a treadmill (which a live personal trainer once recommended) or the HIIT treadmill "personal trainer" high intensity version that starts at 3 mph works up to 6 mph (which it only maintains for about 3 minutes), then works back down to 3 mph over the course of 30 minutes?
I'm interested it maintaining a healthy cardio system, keeping the blood pumping right and avoiding clogged arteries (I eat relatively healthy). I don't know which is better. I read on this board that HIIT is better, but maintaining a 6 mph speed for 22 minutes seems more intense to me than working up to it, then maintaining it only for a couple of minutes.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish from it and where you are currently.

I'm mainly interested in maintaining a healthy cardio system and being able to walk up stairs without collapsing (which I can already do). I'm at the point where I can do either or, just wondering which is better. Thanks.

The best of the two is both. Alternate between them. This keeps the body guessing, the body adapts too easily to one type of cardio, and can actually learn to store fat in response to repetitive cardio.
