I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with Whey Protein and know if it causes any side effects. I've been lifting weights for a while now and i was wondering if this would help me put on some muscle and also be SAFE for me now and in the future..

It is safe...it is simply an added source of protein intake, and this is needed of course for muscle. Whey is best utilized post workout, but can be incorporated in many ways in other meals if you can afford it, but is not necessary but pwo if you are eating a solid diet.

It's safe, but if you get the cheaper whey protein concentrate (WPC), a common side effect is gas and bloating (not fun). Get the higher quality whey protein isolate (WPI) if you run into that problem.

dont forget to compare the 5 of protein per grams of powder needed. The gnc does not give allot of bang for the buck! take the weight in grams of serving size and deivde by the 5 of protein. A good powder will be atleast 75%

I have also been told to supplement my whey protein with fish body oils for the high cholesterol that whey posesses. Any info on this?

Just read the back of your protien. Some of the cheap stuff has high cholesterol, but other brands have next to none. I am using American Nutrition Isolate it has practically zilch in terms of cholesterol.

I think you are thinking correctly, just not wording it incorrectly.

Yes, proteins are thermogenic, as they must be broken down into their amino acids by the body, and this takes energy, usually in the form of fats.

Fish oils have shown positive effects on fat oxidation. Many, many other health benefits also, but that is for another post.

I realize this is an old post...but now I'm confused...one,whey protien posesses high cholesteral??I'm looking at the label and it says 50mg cholesteral...would this be considered high?

And how do you know if your protien is WPC or WPI?I got a big tub at Sam's.
100% whey protien,made by CytoSport.

Sorry to sound so uninformed.

Read the ingredients...the first 2-3 listings will tell the story. And whey protein is not high in cholesterol. :)

I am just starting out and my main goal is to lose weight. I do my workouts after work and live about 30 min. from work. By the time I eat dinner, it's been at least an hour since I've worked out and I'm starving on the way home. I was thinking about drinking a protein shake after my workout, which includes weights and cardio. I would then eat dinner about 30-45 min. after I drink the shake. I looked on GNC, since that was the most convienent website for me, and I found the GNC Lean Shakes. Does anybody have any info. on these or any suggestions? Should I even be including the protein shakes at all? Thanks for any input.
