yor body is recovering a lot when you sleep, and needs nutrients, and since your not ingesting anything for 8 hours, its ok to have protein before bed. Take it with milk in order to slow absorbtion. This why, you will use the protein throughout a few hour period. I actually read that one of the best ways to add muscle mass was to get up 4 hours into sleep and have a premade shake and go right back to bed, so that your body had nutrients to work with the entire time your asleep.

I would ditch the milk(too much sugar) and go with protein and fats. 1 tbsp. of flax oil, then have a whey shake with fiber(flax meal) works great here. Or if you prefer food, you can do some cottage cheese(casein protein, actually gels in the stomach on digestion, thus slow release of amino acids into the bloodstream, 1 oz. of walnuts(good ratio of Omega 3:6 fats) would work well too. Many things you can do. If you are gaining, keep a shake in the fridge with whey, heavy cream, and some fiber(again, flax meal would work great), and chug it down if you wake up.
