I am just starting to exercise again & was wondering what the scoop is with the protein powders. Some people have mentioned them in different posts.

Are they for people that are lifting weights & trying to build alot of mass?

Or are they good for people that are trying to loose fat & tone up their bodies but not put on big muscles but rather have a well toned & defined body?

Do they make you loose alot of weight if you drink one a day & are doing exercises?

I really cant afford to loose weight.

I signed up for the the following programs:
Weight Loss & Definition Training
Special ft Programs - Glutes and Thighs, Calves
12 week Ab program also.
I will be doing all my workouts at home. I do not have access to any gym or weight machines.

The answer is yes. Either one, toning or building, protein is necessary. In either case, you must feed the muscle, either to make it grow, or to maintain it while losing fat so you get that nice lean hard look. In your case, trying to gain, lift heavy, eat 5-7 meals with good complex and fibrous carbs, and at minimum your bodyweight in protein, but even better 1.5 to 2 gr. per lb. of bodyweight in protein distributed evenly with each meal. A couple MRP's are probably in order for you, to add calories and make your required meals if you lead the normal busy life. A shaker bottle and water is all you need here for instant nutrition. Once you find your maintenance calories, then increase by 10% or so every other week till your weight gain is to your satisfaction. As you gain, you will have to readjust your caloric intake. Good luck to you.
