Hey,
I have been seeing people lying flat on the ground and doing dumbell presses and today I saw a cupple guys lying on the ground under the squat rack doing something like a bench press.
Can someone tell me what the deal is with this trend? I dont get what the benefits are, it doesnt allow you to lower the weight very far since your elbows hit the ground.
Im sure there is some reason for it though.
Thanks

it's a floor press, designed to strengthen the middle area of your range of motion during bench press if i'm not mistaken (since that's where you're starting from instead of from your chest level during normal benching).

Correct! I love floor presses and have made some good gains using them, although they are extremely punishing on your elbows. A good alternate exercise if you are worried about this is to try lockouts instead. (Lay in the squat cage with the guards set above you and use them to start from, touching down on them each rep.) Both exercises are however not intended to replace a bench press, nor regular tricep work. Instead it is supplemental to other exercises already being performed.

It's more commonly used as a max effort movement rotated in for a 1-3 week cycle as the main form of horizontal pressing.
