What exercises are good for explosiveness? What areas would a person have to work to become explosive?

I heard that stomach muscles are very important in obtaining some type of explosiveness...is this true?

Explosiveness all comes from the legs. Squats are very important, go down fairly slowly and explode up. Something else that I found that helps is running at changing speeds. For example, I did a basketball program for explosiveness. One of the exercises was to run at about 3/4 of your sprint, then speed up to a full sprint. Once you reach a full sprint slow down to 3/4 again and repeat. Looking at all the great basketball players now, they have several speeds to play at. This has greatly helped my game in blowing by defenders. You probably could mix this program up a little to run at different speeds at different times, etc.

I agree with timbaland on the squats. Squats by far are the best exercise for explosiveness. Another good exercise is doing vertical jumps. Do like 3 sets of 10 to 15 as fast as you can.

Power cleans are the best choice if you can do them correctly. Squats go hand in hand with cleans. Jump training is another way to develop explosiveness. I use the power cleans, squats, and the vertimax with the volleyball players I work with. www.gatorzone.com

I also like various jump training exercises such as:
Cyclic split squats
depth jumps to and number of jump skills
rapid fire jumps
Plane old squat jumps
Step and jump
1 legged jumping exercises

I also like the jerk and the snatch. Heavy deadlifts are good.

And you were right in thinking that a lot of explosiveness comes from strong core muscles, don't neglect those.

CLEANS and PLYOMETRICS are suppose to be some of the best things to do to improve explosiveness, as well as squats, sprints, squat jumps, theres so many.
