Hi-
What is the most effective way to go about a routine for loosing weight? I do 30 min cardio 5x a week- then machines 3x a week. Generally splitting upper, lower, and then abs. I have only lost 2 lbs. in 3 months and wondered if there might be a better way to do the machines for more results. My eating is generally ok except maybe once a week or so.
Thanks

Sivy, have you tried the FREE weight loss and tone definition program on here? It will work wonders.
What type of machines are you using and what is the weight? How many sets and reps?? How is your diet? Describe what 'generally okay" is.
Exchanging HIIT's a few times a week with your regular 30 minute cardios will also do wonders. But nonetheless, it always comes down to diet, what you are putting into your system and your weight training plan.

You could try a circuit type program. You should be able to find a lot of info under fitbuddy, but basically it's a high speed/low weight weight training program. Not quite at a cardio pace where you're running around, but enough to get the blood pumping. Also as Raven said change up your cardio, maybe even cut your cardio down to 3 days a week and weight training on other days.

Sivysivy, you need to use a tape measure to check your progress. You may appear to be losing weight slowly but are actually gaining muscle which is heavier than fat. The underlying muscle can also push the layer of fat out and that appears to make you look bigger. This is pretty common with relatively new to workin out folks.
Are your cloths tighter? Scales are not the right tool most of the time for folks who lift.
I'm also gonna take a different tack from the others and suggest that you lift heavy and look to your diet. Muscle burns more calories than fat. The Hiit will also rev up your metabolism. Try to lift on different days than when you do cardio or hiit.

Silly Charlie...always gotta go against the grain, it's amazing you're able to do woodworking.
Fact is Sivy that there's lots of ways to lose fat and Charlie is right that more muscle burns more fat for the long term. Regardless of which you do you should include weight training into your routine

Hi guys-
Thanks for the advice. I am going to try measuring, and also try to do more of a circuit routine. I usually do six machines each time I workout upper body one day lower another with 3 sets of 12-15 each. I am also going to try HIIT maybe start once a week and go up to twice slowly.
Raven I eat basically like this:
Bf: Banana + Fat free milk
Sn:1/4 cup granola
Lu: Natural PB sand on Whole Grain w/ honey or organic bean burrito
Sn: Orange
Dn: Fish with steamed veggies (broccoli, sweet potato, cauliflower, etc...) and brown rice

Well that can be your issue right there, it seems you aren't eating enough for all the activity you say you are doing. Also, bananas are good, but look into other fruits that have less sugar such as blueberries, grapefruit, strawberries, etc. I add cottage cheese into my diet for extra protein, its good with fruit in it.
Also try checking out the nutrition forum for a specific diet as well, there are lots of suggestions there that will help as well.
I would keep a journal for at least a week of all your food intake(ie. calories, carbs, protein, fat, etc) and see where you are at. You would be surprised how it all looks after writing it down on paper.
Good luck and let us know if you need anything else.

I'd have to agree with Raven! The journal is a good idea...really gives you great insight into your diet and how to tweak it. Use www.fitday.com it allows you to keep a food journal and has a fairly large food library.
