Hi Guys,

I used to come onto this site a while back but have let my training and diet slip for a few personal reasons - went off the rails a bit these past few months. I've just started lifting weights seriously again and paying attention to my diet again to get my weight back down and my strength and fitness back up.

Sorry to ramble!!! My question really regards stretching. I have been bought a book about strething which includes some routines combining joint mobility exercises with stretching. I don't want to do the stretches befroe lifting weights as I hear this is bad (indeed, the author himself advises strongly against it).

Can I lift weights three mornings a week and do the joint mobility and stretching exercises each day before going to bed?

Do the stretching and joint mobilit as a part of your cool down, or directly after your weightlifting. This is the most beneficial time for stretching both for strength training and flexibility efficiency.
Also, there is nothing wrong with dynamic stretching before exercising. However, all forms of static and PNF stretching should be avoided prior to weighlifting.

Cheers Wrestler.

One question though. Is it possible to do a stretching routine seperately from the weight training? I lift weights in the morning before heading to the office and, as such, don't have much time. I would ideally like to do a strectching routine in the evening.

Yea, what the big guy says... It's important to stretch WARM muscles. Not only for injury prevention, but because that will be what is most effective. Sometimes before stretching my legs, I will do bodyweight squats or practice my fighting stance.
If you can though, still try to get it in right after lifting. Another alternative, is lets say your doing a BB split for chest and bi's. Half-way through, you are done with your chest workout and moving onto bi's, then stretch your chest in between sets of bicep work.

This is probably a crude way of saying this, but remember that warm taffy stretches, and cold taffy breaks.
