I have had good results so far losing weight(about 30 lbs so far) but have reached a plateau. I have not lost any weight for the last 2 weeks. I am at 294 and need to get below 290 before Oct.1 or I will lose my job. I must get below the minimum weight standard for safe working loads. What can I do to restart my weight loss. I have tried increasing my walking from 2 miles to three. I have even tried a walk, run, walk, run for 2 miles to no avail. My diet should be O.K. and calories are far below what should be required to lose the weight. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can't come this close and not make it.

Maybe the weight is not being lost because it's all water weight...

I wish there was a magic answer, but you can do one of two things, decrease the calorie input or increase the calorie output. It sounds like you are increasing the output, you might try reducing your calorie input by 250 calories and see if that helps.
It would also help to get into the gym and do some weight lifting to increase the metabolism. However, that is tricky in your situation due to your job. You may actually gain a little weight at the start. So until your job is secure you may want to stick to intensifying your aerobic activity (4-5 times a week) and decreasing your calories a little more.

You may have a low metabolic rate, and this could actually have been exasperated by your too low intake of calories. Someone with a low relative metabolic rate is going to be predisposed to obesity if they are eating the typical American diet. As well, given the same type of fat loss diet, they aren't going to lose as quickly. "Either you will have to cut calories more, do more activity (i.e. exercise), or simply accept a slower rate of weight/fat loss". (a note....if you have cut calories too drastically and too fast, this may well be your problem, as your metabolic rate will slow even further in defense against what it percieves as starvation). This seems to be your dilema, there is no magic bullet. You will have to soldier on, stay focused, and meet your goals. If you do something drastic it may indeed have health consequences along with it. Be careful...you will make it. Focus on the part of my post I put in parantheses. This is your answer in a nutshell.
