Hi
I am a 20 year old Australian female, 170cms tall, and have been trying to lose 5-10 kilos. I have been on a diet for 3 months, but my weight has not changed! I exercise for one hour, 3-5 times a week. I eat a varied diet, consuming 3000-4500 kilojoules daily. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to exercise more, eat more, eat less? How do I work out how many kilojoules my metabolism needs?
Please help, I am about to give up!

Ok, you are 5'-5" tall, and want to lose 11-22 pounds... I couldn't find the converter for kilojoules, so I will just suggest some stuff for you! No fast food... your calorie intake should be roughly 500 calories less a day per how many pounds you want to lose! No fast food! Watch your calorie intake and try to reduce it by 1000 kcals a day! But please be careful! Eat low energy foods like salad and broth based soups for the bulk of your intake. Take supplements to meet your bodies requirements, especially because you are working out! Eat half of your meals when you eat out! Make sure that your exercise is getting your heartrate to an aggressive level, otherwise there are no weight loss benefits to your cardio (although it is still good to do, to keep the heart active!) I will try to find the kilojoules conversion rate and get back to you. How is your drinking?? I know, much as my Irish self, that Aussies drink a few beers now and again! Don't forget to factor that and any snacks and whatnot into your calories for the day! Never give up! Strong like bull! :)

Firstly thanks for replying! I wasnt sure if i would get a reply or not?
I'll convert my information to calories and pounds for everyone because i find it all quite confusing!! Im 5 foot 6, trying to lose 11-22 pounds.. I currently weigh about 140 pounds. I eat 700-1100 calories a day, mainly fruits vegetables and low-fat proteins. I do aerobic and weight training, raising my heart rate high and working up quite a sweat! I dont eat junk food.. I eat small meals every 3 hours.. umm what else, oh yeah, hehe yes i am an Aussie but i don't drink beer! *Shock!*
It seems to me that I'm doing basically everything right, so why haven't I lost any weight? I've been at it for almost 4 months and getting so disheartened.. :(

I think you need to eat more. You have the meal separation good, but likely need more food in there.
Do a fit buddy search about the body holding onto fat if you aren't getting enough to eat... lots of discussion on this.
Welcome to FT.... and please, fill out your profile so we can read a tad more about you... although you have supplied a good amount in the thread.

Have you ever had your % body fat checked? 5feet7 and 140lbs doesn't seem overwieght to me. I agree with Tim, you should be consuming at least 1800 calories/day to maintain and shouldn't go any lower than 1200/day while dieting. I think you'd be better off doing some serious weight training (compound moves with heavy wt) and build some muscle for a tighter looking body. Forget about what the the scale says and try and get a body fat measurement done.
-------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

Ok, I have slowly been trying to increase my food intake so that my body isn't in starvation mode. I just find it very hard to eat more than about 1000 calories a day, purely because it contradicts in my mind: less food = less body weight, more food = weigh more.. But I know it doesnt necessarily work like this..
I will work more on weight training to tone up, and continue aerobic work, with a healthier diet, and see where that gets me.
Thanks for the info!
