Hi, Im new here and LOVE it thus far, okay so my question is werid w/o much quanitative information, I apologize.
I used to run cross country etc and be thin/healthy, then got fat/unhealthy and its hard for me to run now.
So to get me started I take these power walk/hikes each day that last about 3 hrs..I am not sure how many miles, prolly 4-6 but its trail hiking in which I go up (and down)) 3 huge (like 400 -500 ft elevation gain) and there are you know, trail obstacles like steps and rocks etc.
I definitley feel it in my muscles (and the + thing about me is that I have a lot of muscle mass from playing rugby at one time)
I guess I am just searching for input or possible ways to make this activity burn more calories or how many calories you think it would burn?
Thanks.

Maybe do some sit-ups and push-ups at various points along the track? Choose a specific place (between two trees or something) where you run as fast as you can. Bring a couple of dumbbells in a backpack, and do some curls and so on. Set up workout "stations" along the track, e.i., the big oak - 10 push-ups, the leaning tree - 20 sit-ups, the rock on top of the hill - 15 curls, between the side track and the stream - run, etc.

Getting there...

Do you pay attention to your heart rate and how high/low it goes during your hikes?
