bb1fit, thanks so much for replying. Okay, so food for fuel before I go running each morning. Do you think two eggs (scrambled) would be enough fuel for a one-mile run/jog? Thanks for the help so far!

Oh yes, and I forgot something, I'm so sorry about this. But if I continue with the weights in the evenings, will my arms get bigger, or smaller?

Okay, this is my first post, so sorry if I sound a little mislead. I started a diet yesterday, along with cardio and exercise. After reading "Cardio questions" I see I was doing it wrong. I started the Atkins diet, along with running a mile early in the morning, right when I wake up, coming home to do some tae-bo, and then weight training. I see now that I should wake up, do weight training, and then wait until the evening to do cardio? The only reason I like to get my cardio out of the way in the mornings is because it is extremely hot here until very late, however I plan on working out at least 5 days a week. Is this to much? Also, is it okay to do weight training on an empty stomach?
Now, I have been doing a number of different exericeses with 5 pound weights, for my arms. My goal is to lose inches from my arms. I want a feminine look to them, I do not want them to be bulky and muscular, or flabby, is this a realistic goal? But one thing I do have is flabby triceps, and I may not be doing the exercises right, but they never get sore, or feel very worked out. The same thing with my glutes and abs, any help/suggestions/comments? Thanks a lot, anything would be much appreciated! *Casey, 17-year old female, need I say more? |

It is ok if you do cardio first thing in the morning, just treat it pretty much like a weight training session, have some nourishment before and after. You can do your strength training in the evening, the idea is just to separate the 2 as far apart as possible. And no, do not do it on an empty stomach ever. No matter how much weight you want to lose, this is counterproductive to your end goals.
Many new trainees have flabby triceps, and they are untrained, and very weak. It takes time to get to "feel" them if this is the case. You need to really concentrate on the tricep when you are doing them, think mind into muscle. Flex it before each set, and try to keep it flexed throughout the set. This will force you to focus on the tri's. This will take some time to get used to, since it is hard to flex what isn't there yet. But the practice of this will get you "in tune" with the muscle and you will soon be able to. Visualize the muscle you are trying to work. The same goes for your other priority areas. Abs are an especially hard place also to "feel" when you first start, the same reason as above as there most probably is not much muscle there now, so you have to work for it in the above manner. Get your diet in order, and you will feel it all the sooner. ============ Quoting from caseytress: Okay, this is my first post, so sorry if I sound a little mislead. Wow Casey, you sound a lot like my sister. bb1fit's suggestions will help. My mom had the same problems and once she started focuing on what she was really doing it helped her out a lot, as for if your arms will get bigger with the weights, I don't know, but I'm interested in this one also, so I'm curious to the answer to.

With proper diet, your arms will get toned and firm. YOu will not get big muscles, this takes testosterone. You would be quite surprised just how hard it is to get big muscles!! We men work diligently for this, and cannot achieve it most times. Women without drugs do not have to worry about it. You will firm and lean with weights.
