I have been reading alot of info on this site and others and what i have gathered is that to buid mass muscle you need to do low reps high weights.

So how come my fitness plan the beginner mass muscle gain tells me to do 20,15,12 and 10?

that's just to get you started, as you progress the weights should go up and reps go down.

Hi,

I have started to exercise about 3 months ago and lost about 30lbs doing cardio 3x a week for one hour and weights 2x a week followed by 30 minutes cardio so i think Im doing OK but my biggest issue is (as Im trying to do wieghts 3x times a week now) how heavy should the weights be? how do I find the proper wieght of dumbbells and else for my reps? I have read that it should be something like this: if the target reps is 8 you should be able to do not more than 9- is this true? Im shooting for 20,15,14,13. Any help would be reatly appreciated.
Thanks

You should barely be able to squeeze out the target amount of reps. If you're trying say 3 sets of 10, and you can complete all 3 sets, it's time to move the weight up. I'm a fan of periodized training. A week of shooting for 12-15 reps per set, a week of 10-12, a week of 6-8, and back to 10-12 for the last week.
