hi there,
first off, im an ectomorph who has tried training lots before, I've read a lot about this subject and about how eating is so important and how you shoudl eat protein shakes and supplements inbetween meals.
Basically what im trying to say is that I find that protein powder, protein bars, in fact anything with protein in just too expensive. Some of those sites say to consume X amounts of these bars and 1 litre milk with heaps of protein powder, but am i the only one finding this way to expensive?
I know i can eat eggs which are rather cheap, but they only have 7 grams protein in and i'd have to eat a stack just to get enough protein.
I'm just finding it really hard to gain weight.
I recently forked out 450(AUD) for a nice benchpress, and I'm at uni so can't afford to go to gym, and definitly can't spend like 15 bucks a day just on protein to be added to my diet. Does anyone have any idea other than eggs of a cheap way to add some carbs/protein to my diet.
It's bad enough that im an ectomorph and it seems anything i do i can't gain weight, and im almost positive its cuz of my calorie/protein intake. I would love to know that any form of physical activity im doing would contribute some way to gaining the physique i want. I mean,,, if i was overweight, any cardiovascular i did could only help me lose weight, but for me, i have so much trouble gaining weight and im getting discouraged almost to the point of giving up for the 10th time. LOL sorry im rambling again, but basically i was just wanting some hints as to a cheap meal plan including high protein. (i can afford to buy ONE tin of protein powder per week which is 1kg for about 17AUD)
I feel kinda embarrassed saying thsi but the meal plans out there these days are just too expensive.

You do not need to use those powders etc. But you do need to eat. You are right for you eating is key to gaining weight. I know here in the states I worked in a college cafe in the dorms, I got pretty much free food. Is that possible there? Other than that eggs, milk, tuna are all cheap here not sure about there but that is about all I can think of for you.

Cottage cheese is a pretty inexpensive source of protein.

Cottage cheese, tuna, eggs, beans, chicken(depending on where you buy it) I learned from the guys here at FT,and this especially works for your situation...if you can find a bulk foods section in the store you shop at beans, rice, pasta, and all sorts of other items can be bought for dirt cheap. Good Luck!

Protein powder is more convenient then regular food but it isn't a must, on work days I need to eat a whole chicken breast (around 60g) a can of tuna (around 30g) two low fat yogurts (around 10g each), few egg whites (around 5g each), pastrami (another 10g) and I assume I get another 15-20g from the rest of the stuff I'm eating. So you see I come no where near the 220g that I'm soposed to but I'm loosing fat like someone is carving it from me and I'm gaining muscle like mad.
Just watch what you eat and you will be fine, unless you want to be a pro body builder then you can use the powder.
