Hey all,
I've noticed that after my toning class, or my step interval class, often I gain a pound or two. Is this normal? I'm watching what I'm eating. And it seems on the weekend, when I don't do as much vigorous exercising that I loose weight. I get in less than 1000 net calories a day. That's food calories-exercise calories. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Your weight will fluctuate due to things like water retention, bloating, etc. - don't worry about it on a day by day basis.

As a side note though, eating under 1000 calories a day is starving yourself and a great way to lose muscle mass and kill your metabolism.

also are you weighing yourself right after in your clothes. if so it's probably your wet clothes from sweat adding extra weight. Weigh youself on the same day same time every week to get an accurate reading.

Oh my i didn't even see your only eating 1000 calories a day. you will never loose weight like that, that it doing damge to your body and is not good at all, please eat more to avoid health risks. It is a misnomer that you need to drop your calories drastically like that to loose weight. Eat 5-7 small meals a day and figure out what your maintenance calric intake for a day is then cut 250 calories and monitor the scale till your loosing 1-2 pounds a week. This will ensure it is mostly fat and not muscle. Right now you are killing lean body tissue which is vital in fat loss. Your BF% couls end up rising with your current diet. Thin does not equal healthy.

word... cutting too many calories at once will shock your body into a plateau... you do that, and your body will hold on to everything it can get its hands into, and therefore you won't be losing any fat... so cut your calories slowly... the slower the better (in the long run)...

Oh, I am eating, trust me, I love food too much to not eat. Notice I said NET calories. What I mean by that is, calories consumed minus calories burned. I do a lot of activity during the day. Not just working out. And that total is not everyday, that's an average. I've read up on some stuff that says I need to take in no more than 1500 cals to loose weight. I'm not trying to bulk up or anything, I'm bulky as it is right now. But not in the good way. I hope that clarifies things.

where did you get this info from? hell I get 1500 calories before lunch lol.........You need to eat to excercise, if your body has not fuel to use, yesa it will burn fat. But eventually it will go into "starvation mode" and lower you metabolism. That is to say when you excercise you burn 500calories, your now only gonna burn 200 calories. Then when you do eat, your body will sotre more fat, cause it knows its gonna need the extra fat to "survive".

Your body don't care what you look like, only to survive, muslces gets bigger, cause it has to in order to survive.
If you stop working out, it won't keep the extra muscle around, it needs too much engery.

Less you eat, less you will loose, watch survivor, they get very thin, and they loose muscle too? why? body will keep more fat, cause fat contains more engery, and less muscle tissue on your body means lees total calories a day it need to survive.

Trust me, I have tried the eating diet, or whatever you want to call it, and have lost nothing! But in fact gained. It is only when I limit my caloric intake and workout like a nut that I loose weight. And I'm not loosing muscle, I know that. I eat, trust me. My husband eats less than I do. I just workout to burn it off.

The "eating" diet does involve limiting caloric intake, but in a smart and sensible manner. For example, let's say between your BMR and day-to-day activities, you burn 2000 calories. A sensible weigh to lose weight would be to slowly lower your caloric intake to about 1500 calories a day, then burn off anohter 500 calories a day from exercise. That's 1000 calories lost a day, which will translate into about two pounds per week.

Keep in mind that the first few weeks of any diet usually produce results not in-line with the remainder of the diet.

Also, I'd like to know where you got the idea you can't eat more than 1500 calories a day to lose weight, unless you're like 4'11" and 95 pounds.

And I've done that. I've calculated what my caloric intake should be to maintain my current weight at my activity level (not counting exercise, some days I don't). And then subtracted 1000 calories, either through exercise or food and thats how I came up with that. Most of the time I am at that level, sometimes I'm over, sometimes I'm under. But it averages out for the week. Keep in mind I eat a lot of fruit and veggies, which don't have a whole lot of calories to begin with. And don't worry I eat meat too. I am just really watching what is going in my mouth on a daily basis.
And if you look on the web you will see there are tons of caloric intake calculators that help a person find this out.
