Hey guys. Its Scott again, and I've got a couple questions... This is what I ate yesterday:
Calories Protien Carbs Fats
2xChicken (Half breast):270 62 0 8
2 cups Oatmeal*: 290 12 50 4
Flax Seed: (3 tbsp): 144 16 4 9
1 cup Skim milk: 86 8.4 11.9 0.4
1/2 scoop Protien: 136 25 4.9 1.5
Gatorade: 150 0 32 0
Banana: 109 1 28 0
1 cup Skim milk: 86 8.4 11.9 0.4
1/2 scoop Protien: 136 25 4.9 1.5
Apple: 81 0 21 0
Total: 1488 157.8 168.6 24.8
*: Cooked.
Now it says in my FT profile that I should be getting 500 carbs, but this seems a little (read: VERY) excessive to me, and approximately 3000 calories, as well as only 200 protien. This sounds a bit lop-sided to me, so if you could tell me what you think of A: my diet, and B: my nutrition goals as given by FT, I'd be grateful.
Thanks again guys
-Scott

Are you trying to bulk up Scott? You have to choose either to build muscle or to tone..

So far I haven't heard anyone on here say that their plan doesn't seem to give them enough calories......seems we have all been 'undereating'? Evidently in a country of so many weight problems, we are actually afraid to eat more. Does this seem strange to anyone else....lol?

YOur profile says you want to bulk up. If I am reading your scale right, the bulk of your carbs,168 is coming from one serving of oatmeal, bananas, and gatorade. Now, 500 is probably excessive, too much fat would be gained with that much, but another 100 or more would easily be in your reach and should be if you added a serving of brown rice for instance with your chicken meal. Also it might be good and cost effective to ditch one of your protein servings in favor of a lean steak, or salmon, or chicken or turkey and a sweet potato, with 2 cups of good vegetables. This way you have added a good solid whole food meal with a decent amount of carbs. And in place of that apple, have a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread, and you can still have the apple if you want, or add a cup of veggies. This will aslso add to your protein sum, and by the way, your protein, why only do 1/2 scoop? Why not just one full scoop? You don't say if this is post training or not, kind of figure it is with the gatorade. Follow that post wo shake with your meal I just listed above. Using beans in place of the sweet potato is a good choice. Will add a great amount of carbs with just these two additions. 1 cup of black beans will yeild about 40 gr. of top quality carbs and good fiber, and a 5 oz. sweet potato will add another 30-35 gr. Just this boost should start you on your road to gaining.
-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. You are limited only by your mental perception of it.

Arnold: I'm not really certain what my goals are right now. I'd like to lean out, but also gain as much muscle in the process as possible. As it stands, I'm 6'0 and 200lbs, with a fair bit of beef to me. However, I've still got that nagging gut that just won't go away, as well as I lack defenition in my arms and chest because of a layer of fat.
What would you recommend in this situation?
BB1Fit: Thanks for the advice, its very helpful. I'll add that in ASAP :)
