At the gym i go to, there is one guy ( who works there ) who is massive!! I watched his routine a couple of times and when he trains shoulders and chest he seems to split a set of 12 into 3. He does 5 reps (struggling) takes of a little weight, 4 reps, takes off a little weight and then does the last 3. He has a mate to take off the weight so it is one whole set.Just wondered is this supersetting, and is it this method that has made him so big, or is he trying to tone up (even more) ....dont you just hate some people!! |

Another thing iv seen is a couple peolpe doing arms. The would do 12 barbell curls, straight after that with no rest go onto seated dumbell curls and followed by pull-ups!! again is this a mass or definition building process? |

What you have described about the guy on the bench is called a drop set. Supersets are when you go from one excercise immediately to another. Recently, I've been supersetting heavy bent-over barbell rows (wide grip, low reps) and dumbbell rows (moderate to high reps). When I finish the set of barbell rows, I immediately pick up the dumbbells and start with that excercise. After a few sets of that with only 60-90 seconds rest between supersets, I'm pretty winded. I also love to superset leg curls and leg extensions. Hope that answered your question. |

Guys to be honest,I have been doing weights on and off for the past couple of years. I have tried so many different types of routines. From pyramiding, supersetting, staying consistently at 3 reps of 10. And to be honest, I don't think there is a specific one that makes your body get bigger any faster. I believe that its all in the diet, consistency and committment. If you eat properly, and consistently hit the weights, I don't see why peoeple shouldn't get bigger. Granted, I am not the biggest guy in the world but, then again I lack the committment. But I think Supersetting is more for the people who are in a rush and don't have a lot of time to do their workouts. My old gym teacher told us that supersetting is good because we only have a 1 hour and 10 minute class, so we really have to use our time wisely. So Jon, I don't think there is one perfect solution to getting big, there are many routines, but all require the 3 things (that I mentioned) to help aid you to become sucessful. Chris |

I guess it depends on what your ultimate goal is. I'm not entering a competition or anything..just really competing with myself and trying to make my workouts fun and interesting. |

jonpullen,i have supersets in my work out as well, my personal trainer is a huge guy who wasn't naturaly gifted like some. he was weighting 150 when he was 21 he is like 30 now and he weights like 210, he is huge!!! hehe but any way, he gave me this programe and i have been doin it for about a month, it includes supersets for bicepts and tricepts.. i do sitted doumbles then without resting i do 12 dipts i do this 5 times not 4 times. i rest only 60 to 90 sec between sets . then i do another bicept excersiz and then without resting do tricepts kickback... i guess the benefit of superset is that it makes lots of blood flow in to your target bodypart. i should add that you can really feel the pain in your muscles ... i havn't mesured myself yet so i can't tell how good does it work but i defently do feel good about it... good luck and lift HARD!!!
