That is a good question. I am curious to hear a answer to this one also.
Over the past 4 years I have done a bit of both(stretching before and during)and found a comfortable routine of stretching up before and doing a good warmup.

Stretching before, during and after is definitely a good thing. There is a new member who posted quite a few stretching exercises - you should be able to use the search function.
Good luck!

you should'nt stretch between sets....while u r working out you are already stretching your muscles...not 100% but some of it...you don't want to tear up your muscle...

Okey, I'll explain one thing. Stretching or not in between the sets depends on what type of exercise your are doing. Ex: when doing dumbell presses one stresses the muscles twice, first with the weight (the negative and posetive part of the workout) and secondly with the stretching while doing the movement (and also people tend to lower down too much the dumbells which can cause injury to the shoulders). Here you should definitely not stretch the muscle again in between the sets (since you're risking hurting yourself).
BUT with other exercises like squat, lunges, presses, close grip triceps etc (where you don't work the muscle while stretching it) one should stretch in between the sets to help the muscle get rid of the lactid acid, to recuperate faster and be able to work for longer.
Et voila.
