Hello everybody:) I'm used to stretching after I do weights, (warm up cardio, weights, 1 set of 15-20 reps for each muscle group(total body), stretching (total body). I now know that is not the way to go. I'm in the process of switching up my workout routine, this is what I do now (warm up cardio, stretching just the muscle I will work on before I do the exercise, about 6 different exercises, 4 sets of 8-12 reps each)I did this yesterday for the first time. I never used to have much muscle pain the next day, now I feel very cramped up and tight:( Why is that? Should I continue to do a total body stretch after all my weight exercises in addition? Or do I feel this way because I worked my muscles much harder this time? Please help:)

Manny, there's a thread called "stretching" in the powerlifting forum that goes into great detail on stretching. Should be of some help to you.

Hi Manny and welcome to the world of DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness! This will typically happen when you change up your routine and/or are new to wt training. I hurt for a week when I first started. Stretching is the best thing to do. It will go away in time...until you change things up again:) After a while you'll learn to appreciate the pain as a sign that you worked out hard!

BTW..welcome to FT-Pro!

Thank you everybody! I feel much better today:big_smile: I used a hot water bottle all weekend and massaged my calfs. I deffinately think now that I just didn't stretch enough plus the bigger workload. Thanks again for all the help:big_smile:
